rippa win... But Oh my god at that miss :P Is it one of the worst in finals?
Not even to kick a behind. The Crowd made the moment extra special. YEAAAAHHHHH oh oh OHHHHHHHHHHHH

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

BLOODY BEST GAME EVER YESTERDAY< JUST HAWESOME but
Our goal kicking is somthing that really needs to be addressed
seriously, that shot by lewis was just disgraceful, that is just unacceptable, he also could have won that game against port where he
missed that shout fro 25 mtres out
Roughhead mised two in a row as well bateman mising one before that,
we should have won by at least 25 points yesterday, if we lost we
would have to blame ourselves for poor kicking under pressure
If we converted better we would be winning games by larger margins and
would have won afew of the close ones we lost earlier this season
If we can get our kicking right, we are going to very very hard to beat

GO the hawkers, lets smash the roos next week:thumbsu:

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

What Lewis did is something that has inexplicably come into our game and I see it quite often these days. No idea why.

When a player marks close to goal and on an angle, they seem to feel the need to face away from the goal and then play on as quickly as possible hooking the ball across the body. As a result, it fails quite often.

When Lewis marked where he did yesterday, all he needed to do is go back, steady himself, face the goal, then improve his angle and ease the ball across the body. Should have been a gimme goal and he didn't even score!! I wasn't pleased :)

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

it's really becoming a habit from lewis, after that shocker against Port.

the boy seems to have the tough streak yet appears shaky in front of goals late in games.

we definitely have overall improvement left if our goal kicking improves.

having seen other games this wknd, it seems vitally important to nail your opportunity's.

roughie too seems crap when he has gimmies in front, yet kicks the harder ones, alike to rocca and cloke. he really needs to clean up that part of his game.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

Aaagghh dont get me started on our goalkicking. I'm in too good a mood to think about what has driven me mad all year.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

That could have gone down as one of the greatest clangers in finals history!

Instead, I'll just remember that cracking first game Lewis kicked for us!! What a ripper!!! Steadied the nerves and got the ball rolling!!! He's a champ!!!!

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

That kick gave me a heart attack. Never again please Lewis. Just go back and kick a drop punt and no hero kicks.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

Whilst I agree with Lewis's shots on goal yesterday, let's not forget the guy was one of a handful that kept us in the game up until half time!

This is a different issue. We are a good side, but we aren't so good that we can just throw away shots on goal. We have to make every shot count to progress further in the finals. I'll continue to say this ... the first club to concentrate more on the skills (especially kicking for goal) will be very successful indeed. I want it to be us.

I am not disagreeing with you Adelaide Hawk. I was there too. It was bloody frustrating. I just think sometimes, it is easier to concentrate on the negatives. I thought Lewis's first half was huge yesterday.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

It just seems ridiculous to me that clubs are pouring millions of dollars into trying to get an edge over the other sides ... advanced medical technology, health and diet issues, working feverishly on match ups, rotations, tackling, etc, and yet the absolute most important aspect of our game is rarely worked upon.

To me it's like a golfer getting every part of his game just right but not working on his putting. It would mean the difference between winning and losing. The reason we defeated Adelaide last weekend was because Buddy was able to put that pill between the sticks. Miss it, and we were looking at Mad Monday tomorrow.

It just seems like these days if a player wants to improve their goal kicking its strictly for after training

Then they should be hanging around for thirty minutes after.

You guys are very harsh.

It's nothing to do with lack of practice or technique: Lewis has a very neat kicking style, and is generally pretty accurate: it's the pressure of a huge moment on a young player.

I'd hate to have heard some of you after Jason Dunstall's misses in the Semi Final loss to Adelaide in 1993.
And Peter Hudson's misses in the 1971 Grand Final.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

The coaching staff will give it the attention it deserves.

All players who are near Lewis if he gets a similar opportunity will tell him to go back and kick it.

The first goal of the day was how I will remember Lewis from yesterday, what a settler.

and golfers dont get the hips??

and buddy never misses?

C'mon mate, pressure can stuff you up. As long as he doesn't do it again it happens.

Look at Malcolm Blight, running into a an open 'Point'. S Kernahan, needing a point to win, missing the lot. Jean Vandervauld at thr Britixch open about 8 years ago, 3 up with 1 hole to play had a brain explosion. Tiger woods misses puts.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

I'd back Lewis on the run. Just not on the set shot.

The one that needs to work on it, is Roughy. The guy gets (imo) too close to the man on the mark.

Re: Oh Dear Lewis

I know guys but it was the biggest What the! shot ever not to even kick a behind

you answered your own question. you can't seriously think that people are overlooking this aspect of football?

there is something that people keep overlooking when taking set shots for goal. the person on the mark. this person is allowed to block the shot, but also puts perceived pressure on. as well, i personally believe that umpires don't monitor whether a player creeps the mark - i mean how often is a player penalised for overstepping the mark. the last was in the wc port game at the end, yet was contoversial, because it's really only paid a few times a year. and don't go telling me that players play by the rules, and won't overstep the mark in honouring a intrinsic part of our game. no, players, and coaches look for any advantage, and creeping the mark would be one of many.

so this is the difference between putting or baketball free throw; that there is an opponent player who is actively trying to stop the ball. can you imagine if the person putting had another guy running in front of his lie; there would be outrage. other thing about golf, is apart from nerves, their heart rates doesn't rise from physical exertion as it does in a running game.

afl football is certainly profesional, but until the umpires officiate this aspect of the rules with close scrutiny, there will not be an improvement in goal kicking. afterall, i've often heard that this aspect hasn't changed even with the professionalism kicking in.

I was at the game a couple of hours early and Lewis was the first hawk player out there warming up..
He was practising set shots and kicking from angles, I was stunned at how bad he missed that snap in the last quarter.. Over confident with his own ability I think.. He will learn from that, im just glad that didnt cost us the game..
Go hawks
