Old PC BEEEEEPS on startup

I dug out my last PC from under the house. It was working when I put it under there... a couple of years ago.

Now it just emits a series of 4-5 second beeps when I start it up.

I can't find any POST code that matches it.

Any ideas?

Probably RAM.

Take out one stick... pow! Startup.

Now it just seems to shut down at random intervals.

Think it is the CPU temp - sits at 88 deg without even doing anything. Shuts down when I try to install things.

I MAY, at some point in the past, have ripped the fan off the CPU then just stuck it back on without refreshing the thermal paste...

Re-Paste+Removal of ALL the dust if you havnt done it already.

All done - cleaned up the old paste, added new, wrestled with the silly heat sink/fan attachment mechanism and we're golden. Just need to download more RAM and it is done.

New RAM has been downloaded. Couple of Windoze updates and it's running better than ever.

... Found a case fan that wasn't moving. The motor was hot as, blades not moving.

Pull it out, open up the rubber bung under the sticker, squirt in some isopropyl alcohol to get the sludge moving, then in with some sewing machine oil (spilled it all over the place of course), put the bung back, sticker down (plus sticky tape because I didn't get all the spilled oil when I cleaned it off) and it's good as gold. Even took off the other case fans and cleaned and oiled them. How thorough!

I don't usually enjoy messing with PCs but this little project has been satisfying.
