I think it's a number of marginal gains all coming together at the right time. Improvements in shoes, coaching, competition and generational athletes. God I hope it's not drugs.Wallaby why are we seeing such big improvements in the 400m hurdles for both men's and women's the last 2 or 3 years? Better techniques? Better track and shoes? just good timing?
Jamaica chick's bothched the changeoversJust missed the women's relay and the replays will have to wait but sounds like a great last 100m by Terry of US.
Brooke Buschkuehl (its gonna take me awhile to get used to her married name) did an auto qualifier with her first jump of 6.76. All the favourites jumped an auto qualifier.
Anderson Peters in the Javelin has defended his Javelin title, only the great Jan Zelezny of Czech Republic in the 90s has done that. Peters has huge arms.

anyone got the decathlon points table?
US men and Jamaican women, swept the individual 100m events, but couldn't win the 4x100m relay. Wasn't the 4th runner that caused the problem, it was the baton changes.
It's mostly the shoes/tracks. 400H is incredibly hard on the joints/muscles/tendons. There is so much more cushioning offered by the shoes and the new tracks that there is far less impact on the body. The 400H is about dragging yourself up and getting going again after each hard landing over a hurdle (which is why you see so many atheletes almost come to a stop on hurdle 9 or10 - they've just had enough). And Mclaughlin is just one of those a freak athletes - has been all the way up through juniors.Wallaby why are we seeing such big improvements in the 400m hurdles for both men's and women's the last 2 or 3 years? Better techniques? Better track and shoes? just good timing?
