Has Rory Sloane actually forced his way into the "who should be our next skipper" discussion?

I for one found myself actually thinking that yesterday, and wasn't suprised the same thoughts have popped up on here on another thread. If so, then that's staggering (in a good way).

Can't say I'd ever considered a situation where Danger wasn't our next skipper, but is that because no one else was sticking their hand up?

I'm interested on everyones take on that, more so than who they think would be a better skipper.

What a star hey.

Im at the point where I think of our situation is kinda like that of West Coast mid last decade.

Sloane and Dangerfield are Cousins and Judd.
One will take that reigns and be named captain, do all the media stuff and the like, but to the fans and players of Adelaide, the other will be seen as an equal.

Will be interesting to watch to see who gets it out of those two when Van Berlo's time is up. Unfortunately I missed Sloane's amazing game yesterday but when we talk about Dangerfield's never die attitude, the exact same applies for Sloane. He's one of the few players on our list that runs just as hard the other way, love his work defensively and for someone that isn't an amazingly skilled player, he's one of our best due to his worth ethic so I could easily see him being captain material.

Also have to remember that game a year or two ago where he was playing pretty bloody well, played the whole game and none of us would have picked there was anything wrong with him but come Monday we found he broke his thumb, fractured his jaw and something else as well for memory, leading from the front at it's best.

I've always thought Danger would be our next captain and still have him ahead but there wouldn't be any complaining from me whatsoever should Sloane be given that title over Danger. Both look to be great future leaders and will be fantastic C and VC's for the side.

I do want us to pick one though rather then having dual captains, not a fan of that option myself.

Dangerfield Captain, Sloan Vice Captain. Partnership that can last a decade. Both have the characteristics to do an outstanding job however. An argument for one you could have for the other. Cant split them really.
Would be happy with either as Captain/Vice-Captain.

Bit like choosing between Superman & Batman - we can't lose with either combo.

Needs to happen from 2014 & I think it will be good for VB too to concentrate on playing.

I'm a fan of Talia. I would like to see how far he can take his game with it (captaincy). Don't know if he has the media skills or the time considering how meticulous they say he is with his preparation

Wow, one from left field. I think he is still a bit young and trying to figure out his game. He could definitely be one for the future. I could see him being a mainstay in the leadership group.

Would like to see Talia in the leadership group, but not ahead of Danger/Sloane as Captain/VC.

Both Jacobs & Porps were added to the leadership group this year & their form has slipped. Porps should drop out next year & perhaps Jacobs too if he can't handle the extra responsibility (I just want the 2012 vintage Sauce back). Thommo may also drop out with Danger/Sloane combo too.

Next year: Danger (c), Sloane (vc), Talia, Walker, Jacobs (?). Walker is already the organiser of the forwards, so this should be recognised too. Time for the next generation to take charge.

I don't much care which one, but I do want one of these two to be our captain next year. No disrespect to vB, who has acquitted himself very well in difficult circumstances, but it's time for the next generation at the AFC.

I am not a fan of it but would co-captains work??
Captains: Sloane/Danger
Vice Captain: Talia, Thompson, Smith, Sauce either of them

The major difference though is that Sloane and Danger did not associate with thugs and do hard drugs.

The Danger/Sloane partnership along with Crouch makes a formidable combination.

Throw in Tex and if we can get a good preseason we should be a threat in 2014.

Danger captain sloane vice.

You need the superman look at the centre coin toss, dangerfield has that strutting look, I can **** you up with a 5 minute burst attitude about him. When he shakes the opposition hand, he is going to intimidate teh **** out of them because hes just so strong. Players interviewed have commented on how strong his handshake is and that's a big deal. You want that in your captain, and Sloane as your hardest working backup.

It really is Judd/Cousins style, except Danger/Sloane are more fun and better dudes.

That begs the question: Who is our new Rodney Maynard?

lol. I loved that guy.

If I remember the story correctly, Lockett told him once to stop holding him or else. Maynard stopped.

Back then you wouldnt mess with someone the size of Plugger.

Thats the biggest problem with Van Berlo, he doesnt intimidate or make you worried.

He comes across as a simple kind gentle passive guy.

thats been VB biggest problem is perception.

Having the "Danger stamp" stands for something and means something.

After watching Danger the last couple of weeks, I can see why he is not captain right now.

He seems to feel he has to win the game off his own boot. Giving him the captaincy will make this thought even stronger. In that last quarter on the weekend he had the blinders on and yes he won a couple of centre clearances, but every single one resulted in a mere bomb at goal from the 50m mark and missed shot.

Hopefully with maturity, and in times when our team is going better, this will be less of an issue. Fix this and he is the ideal captain going forward.

Rory as captain. Not sure. He comes across as the kind of guy who has little interest in the off field role associated with captaincy. Captaincy of an AFL club is more than what we see on the ground.
