I would think the odds are that Michael Malthouse will be coaching Richmond at the start of 2013. Hardwick has done some hard yards and is widely respected at Punt Rd. Malthouse coming to Richmond doesnt necessarily mean the end of Hardwick at Richmond, it just means that Hardwick may take up a senior role in the administration and develop his football management skills. Hardwick has a young family and not even 40 years old yet. He can work for the next 20 years in football administration without the stress of being a coach. He has a background in Accounting and Finance and added to his football stuff- that makes for a good mix in terms of football administration. This is a rumour that is going around at the moment.
Interesting that is a rumour but it just seems a bit based around trying to make an arguement for Mick coming to Richmond.
Anyone who makes it to head coach doesnt think like that in regards to future employment. If he was outed in any way he would be devastated and wouldnt want to hang around the club even with a nice job in administration.
Matty Knights could still be making a decent dollar in football as an assistant coach if he didnt grab the head coach job at Essendon. Now his assistants are beating him for jobs. So income longevity is sometimes better achieved if you remain an assistant coach but he was desperate to land a big gig.
Coaches want the buzz and once they have it, losing it is never pretty, no matter how its done.
