7 teams, 5 teams or 4? Do we want to find middle ground to please everyone? Do we want to really make sure the best earn the prestiege spots?
I suggest Top 5-6-7 for One Dayers, Top 4 for Tests (1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 - L1v2 vs W3v4, W1v2 vs WSemi) if it is going to be a split system.
What about a six team system? Seven seems too long as we alreasy have a long season ahead of us. I'm not that much of a fan of letting 50% of all teams play finals cricket.
If you have gained two teams, you have to add at least one more finals spot to the system.
With the top 5 system with 12 teams competing, statistically, teams would have to win 58.34% of their total matches to play finals.
With a top six system and 14 teams competing, teams would have to win 57.14% of their total matches to play finals.
I think the six teams option is the better one.
