lol @ the people in here looking for a fake anti semitic angle and getting mad because it turns out they just don't know much about Melbourne suburban footy.

I don't know if it still works this way but back in the day, if you were scheduled to play against Ajax you might find yourself playing on a Friday or a Sunday so as not to intrude on a special day of worship.
Sunday games against AJAX thirds. Their seniors and reserves play on a Saturday

Maybe an unpopular opinion , but local football shouldn't have a salary cap.

No malice intended by this, but have you been on a sports club committee? The amount of effort from volunteers that goes into raising money so a few blokes can fill their boots for kicking a pigskin in a local park is not sustainable. Without a salary cap it would be horrific

Agree Craffles, Footy clubs all over need to put more of their volunteer efforts into the junior programs, juniors who come up through the ranks play for the love of the club and their mates and earn a bit of coin on the side.
I’m hearing the Sunbury clubs in the EDFL can’t even field u16 teams this year, which is a sad state of affairs for such a big catchment area.
There’s no way having a much bigger salary cap will help this at all, I favour a more stringent points value on senior teams so clubs are forced to grow and put energy into making their junior programs the best they can be across all competitions in Victoria.

A more stringent points system is definitely the way to go, easier to manage and monitor.
The salary cap is too easy to get around and I’m surprised that a few clubs have been caught. Information must have come from inside the club, disgruntled ex players maybe.

The RDFL Sunbury clubs having less of an issue. Sunbury parents prefer the RDFL over the EDFL. Diggers struggling but their mass influx of population isn't necessarily of an AFL playing background.

Senior clubs forever have taken their juniors for granted then get shocked when they come of age and don't want to play for the jumper while mercenaries play for decent coin.

Yeah, from what I hear Sunbury Lions have 2 U16 teams in the RDFL, not sure on the Kangaroos

RDFL junior talent is not on the same level as other comps at the moment though, as evidenced by the u13 and u15 interleague matches last year
