Hasn't played a List A match since 2015.

I guess bringing in Peter Siddle off a handful of good BBL games worked so... oh.

Averaged 45 as an ODI opener from 93 matches striking at 92. That's amazing from a guy who didn't even bowl let alone a bloke who took 168 wickets and batted another 50 or 60 odd times elsewhere.

When I saw watto's very first ball in tests, the one where he faceplanted the pitch after falling down in his follow through like a hippo falling down a river bank, I knew that cricket Australia was an equal opportunity employer. Bless you watto. A for effort

My favourite memory of Watto was smashing that pie chucker Swann for a number of massive 6s on his way to a ton in the 3rd 2013-14 Ashes Test in Perth. :thumbsu:

My 3rd favourite memory of that match.

#2 was George Bailey (who played 5 tests and not a big contributor) belting Anderson for 28 off an over.

#1 was Alastair Cook walking out 2-0 down in the series looking at a 4th innings chase of 504 after Watson and Bailey had made batting look easy then getting bowled by an absolute corker from Ryan Harris first ball.

Would only be for the T20...and then seriously why would you bother?

No.

I’d have rather got Mike Hussey to come back and be skipper for a year after suspensions....cos who doesn’t love The Huss?...

Makes as much sense.

That ball was a true thing of beauty. Harris and Johnson produced some of the best spells of fast bowling ever in that series. Every ball was just about a grenade.

Watson was underrated by many. Best all rounder many on here will ever see play for Australia especially for the limited overs stuff. At his best Watto was unstoppable - in test cricket that only lasted 3-4 years but it was much longer in limited overs cricket.

Problem is that by the time his test career had ended he was long past his best and hung around for a couple of years too many. Remained a good T20 cricketer but has slowly declined since his test and ODI retirements.

What people fail to see is that despite being absolutely shite long form cricketers Marsh and Stoinis we do us fine in the shorter formats. They aren’t as good as Watson was but are much better than he is now.
