Now with Adams gone I'm wondering what the consensus is among North fans if we went after Choco for the assistant role.

Clarko yesterday told the media he lives just around the corner from him and was planning to give him a call after learning of William's exit from Melbourne. Cited how he has been part of a lot of success.

When asked if Williams was someone he’d look to bring in or have a chat to, Clarkson, who worked under him at Port Adelaide, said: “Yeah, yeah — well, ‘Choco’ has been in the game for a long, long period of time.

“Been in a lot of clubs and been a part of success too.

“He knows what footy’s all about, and I know him very, very well, and he’s just around the corner, so we’ve just got to see.

“I mean all clubs, probably since August 1st are trying to work out what these structures are going to look like.

“There’s probably a little bit more opportunity to appoint people now and resource your coaching staff, a little bit more because of the lift in the soft cap. So we’ll work that out.

Richmond won their first flag 1 year after Choco joined them, as did the Demons. Gary Lyon said Choco still very much wants to be involved in any capacity at a club. He could be the perfect consigliere to deal with Clarko as we hear things about Clarko needing headstrong/stubborn people around to bring the best out in him instead of yes men, and Williams has always struck me as the type with a chip on his shoulder as we saw with the infamous 'Allan Scott, you were wrong!' Tie thing.

Could it work?

FYI - Richmond won their first flag the year after he left - he was one of the assistants cleared out after they did the review that most people assumed would end with the sacking of Hardwick.

Ah, fair enough, few years off.

Apparently the Martin family give Choco quite a bit of credit for how Dusty turned out, and although he left before they won, it's pretty good praise, no? Add that with Melbourne's recentish flag , at least he has some runs on the board.

As others have said, can't be any worse than what we have had

Can be our 2026 season motto..."It can't be any worse..can it?"

He’s past it
I don't think he'd be able to be an assistant coach. It takes a lot of long hours coding vision etc.
If anything, his strengths would be more as a mentor or development coach, but I'd argue the Dees kicking hasn't improved the last few years in terms of player ratings. Petracca's kicking stands out.
I'm not sure these 18/19 year old kids are going to relate to him well compared to someone like a Cal Ward for example.

Clarko has some runs on the board and look how some rate him on here.

That's part of why for sure, but the 4 flags probably helped.

Next year make or break. Gotta be 8-10 wins.
Well fwiw we've had 8 wins and a draw in the last season and a half (so far) so 8 is what I'd expect (at least) next year.
