Yep. The end of the West Indies was pretty much the end of cricket for me. Before then I devoured five full days of every test.

Since then, Australia have been Celtic and India have been Rangers, and England is the rest of all the other hopeless Scottish PL teams put together.

All other test playing countries may as well just pick a different sport.

Somewhere along the line, when the Australian team became really good, they also became a bunch of entitled, arrogant c**ksuckers and gradually made me lose any interest at all in the national team, and to a slightly lesser degree, the sport. And now they allow a certified cheat not only back in the team, but also give him the captaincy when the team captain is injured.

Yeah, it's funny, I'll shout like mad for the Socceroos, Matildas, Boomers, Opals, Kookaburras, Olympic team etc, but when it comes to cricket my nationalistic fervour is pretty much non-existent. And I reckon you nailed perfectly why I think that way.

Like many things today, the almighty dollar has prostituted everything.

It was a shame champions like Lillee, Chappell(s), Marsh, etc. had to give up an earn to represent their country in the sport they loved (courtesy of dinosaurs like Bradman on the cricket board); but how good was cricket back then?

These days, I get it, cricket generates so much money the players are entitled to their cut. But $3.8M for a couple of months in India!!

Maybe I'm just the dinosaur that wishes he had a time machine and can take this country back to the 1970s and '80s. Australia was the best country in the world back then - bar none!! WTF have we done to it!!??

Interestingly, at present the IPL is the second largest sporting organisation in the world (after the NFL) in terms of revenue.

However it is expected that the USPL will close that gap dramatically over the next decade with massive investment incoming in that sport.

Interesting, not entirely unsurprising, theres money on the table for them to gain. I suppose my original point was a bit broader talking about all facets including and outside of sport.
