I know this happens most years with pre season hype, but for the first time in a while I am very happy where the club is heading. And not in a ''we're gonna get some sneaky wins and finish in the top 8" direction, because I don't expect us to.

More so that I feel we have a fantastic young coach, who despite not proving it over time yet seems to be a class act and rarely set a fut wrong.

We have the reigning Coleman Medalist. When's the last time we had anything important at Tigerland? I know a finals appearance is better, but it's nice to have something to brag about.

We have a group of fantastic young talent, with a few that have already shown it like Deledio, Riewoldt and Martin, lost gems returning from injury that are almost like a bonus, like Foley. And then others yet to live up to their potential like Cotchin that could be amazing.

We have one of the best captains in the league. I know opposition supporters give us shit for this but no one who watches us play can say he doesn't bleed for the club

Our players arent making fools of themselves in public.

I know we have a long way to go but it just feels good to be positive at this stage

Lets just hope the optimism isn't misguided!

I'm always Optimistic and traditionally my post count increase expenditionally leading upto the season...... This year I'm trying to keep my optimism to my self because I feel that I actually jinx the club with my bold statements...

You really don't want Santa Claws to see this thread. MODERATOR OH MODERATOR, CLOSE THREAD

Btw, this is the most excited I've been since about 1994/95

Me too. I think we have added depth in the right area for a big improvement. As mentioned in the OP a successful return of Foley will be huge too. .... ok ok thats all I"m saying..

Agree!! but like a few of the other guys, just trying to keep a Lid on it & not get too carried away. Thats all I'm sayin.

What we have is so much potential. The issue is getting the most out of all this potential.

I fear most of our list may never be able to fully reach their potential and therfore it's hard to be optimistic about this year, I am more optimistic that in 3 to 5 years time the Deledios, Cotchins, martins, Riewoldts will become the teachers for the future. That to me is the time for optimism:thumbsu:

I'm positive we'll improve overall, but still can recognise we are inexperienced in a lot of areas, specificaly we are trying to fill holes with unproven players and are only starting to trial individuals in new roles, if players can show they've developed 5-10% on last year then I can see between 7-10 wins for the year. The key for me is that we show up to play every week.

I thought we wouldn't win a game last year. Even so I watched almost every game and was pretty happy to see a couple of wins, but even happier to see a team of kids play some really exciting attacking football, even if it was just for a quarter or so at a time. To me this was what made me feel we had improved this year. Not that we won as many games as we did the year before, but that when we turned it on it was genuinely great football to watch, and was being executed by the kids. So I'm also optimistic, not that we'll win more or less games, but that our periods of good footy will expand, we'll see the development of the team and we won't be thrashed as often or as badly.

The reason i have optimism is because of two things:
1. Benny Gale is doing a sterling job off field.
2. This pre season has gone very smooth. Last year it was stop start as our players learnt the game style. This year we are more advanced in our knowledge, and the training has been more fluent. Plus our guys are more stronger again. We should perform better.

the way the tigers played in a lot of games last season had me very optimistic for the future. so many games where their passion took over and made for some great games.

maybe not a year to make finals but definately a step up in what could be a great team in a couple of years

I'm optimistic because

1) We have a balanced squad at last. We have enough talls, and a fair bit of quality in that. We have a good top end midfield, with a few guys looking to have the talent to come on. We've got plenty of holes and a lot of development to do but it is so much better to see a team that looks like a real finals structure rather than a bunch of skinny outside players

2) We seem to have decent development now. So we might actually get the talent out of our guys. Think of Troy Taylor actually regularly playing to his talent!!

3) We have a good drafting outfit. I have faith in these guys, even though they pick outside of the box. they seem to be getting it right.

4) we have a good quality management in place. This is so important, it provides the money and makes sure it is properly spent. And they are looking ahead.

Whilst Collingwood has its share of stars, so do we (inc potentials). It wasn't that that delivered a Premiership it was a solid preparation in-line with quality Coaching and an effective game plan. It's up to you Dimma and friends.
