Why was everyone so mean to me when I suggested we play Steene?. Turned out to be an astute decision by the Manic one, once again. So boring
I Didn’t think he was ready, perhaps underestimating the new rules impacts.
I do hope we temper expectations of him a little, GWS ruck stocks with the new rules are not strong and they’ve been struggling in the ruck

We should definitely ease off on thoughts of executing him

He's still got a long way to go but I knew that leap would come in handy. Cameron was being nullified which was costing us clearances. It was a great debut but I also hope we temper expectations

I think we saw pretty quickly there is an afl footballer inside him. A couple more preseason to get stronger, he'll improve other areas of his game.
But lets remember Tim english at his age? Probably pretty similar.

If someone hasn't been "mean" to you here it's a bit like being around politics and not being insulted by Malcolm (the miserable ghost) Turnbull

I takes a lot of brain power to control your tongue, so poking it out puts it in neutral so to speak, and you can optimize brain activity when concentrating on something. its a phenomenon known in neuroscience as neural overflow.

Loving the recognition Steene has rightly got from his debut, was very impressive. The narrative of the Pies being too old will change very quickly if we start to uncover a few more guys like him. We all know there's young talent there in this group, just need to see them get a chance.

This is what I don't understand, Oscar among highest rating on this chart but on the club website it has this.
Everything below average except one average. Anyone who didn't see the game who looked at this would think he had a woeful game.

Its a different scale. Its like judging a small defender that keeps his opponent quiet. You dont get stats for it but doesn't mean you weren't influential.
On the surface when its purely based on stats, its low, but stats dont show the impact, so I wouldn't concern yourself with it.

I think the main thing the AFL ratings does is try to measure impact on the game - whereas the numbers here are just based on raw averages.

All I'd take from that is Oscar was very impactful with his limited touches (and minutes - only 60% of game time) according to the AFL ratings

The Champion data stuff is about where your touch goes and the likelihood of your team scoring from it.

AFL stuff treats all hitouts as the same, whereas if your hitout puts Beau McCreery into the clear for a clearance out the front of stoppage champion data rewards that. Same with marks, kicks, etc...

Thanks, so the AFL one is pretty useless, 9 kicks all turnovers is elite.

Neither give an accurate reflection of individual performance. Dogs dominate CD stats because they're super attacking and get more players ahead of the footy - so it's much easier for your kick to be effective and put someone in a position to score than it is if you're kicking to 2 against 5.

Oscar was very good on debut he has a great leap at centre bounce which will stand him in great stead with today,s ruck rules and another thing he has is sticky hands. That mark he took against 2 big defenders was very good and shows he can take a grab.

I have always liked him and thought we did great getting as a ssp recruit and if not for being inactive with the big toe dislocation he would have in before now. He spent plenty of time at centre and it is easy to see why, being allowed a jump at the ball helps him a lot because of that spring, that is what make him relevant now and more power to him.
