Will he be back for the World Cup. If not, do England have the fire power to win it with out him.

I will be gutted if he doesn't play. I felt this was the one where the Poms could possibly go all the way.

Thoughts??

Most probably no Rooney for the WC and I very much doubt they have the fire power to go all the way even with Rooney.

Brazil all the way. They will be almost impossible to beat. Oh and if you are talking about the fire power how about Adriano and Ronaldo at the front with Ronaldino just behind them as the play maker. I don't think there is a defence in the world that can keep that trio under control.

Brazil will have some very BIG wins in the WC. They are brilliant IMHO.

It's not just Rooney, Owen is suffering from soreness in his foot after his half-hour return for us the other night.

X-Rays have shown no damage, but you can't expect him to be anywhere near his best in Germany.

All things considered this is the most talented crop of Englishmen in a generation, but yeah, with a toothless attack and a lameduck manager I smell more penalty shootout heartbreak.

If both Rooney and Owen were fully fit do you think the Poms would have been a genuine threat?

there is that much talent in the brazil squad its scarey, but can all those egos mix to get them another world cup......... to short a price for my liking.

No, we (England) have no hope as there is too much turmoil surrounding Sven Goran-Eriksson. For England to win the WC we need everything to go right and once something doesn’t the English tabloids will jump up and down to find some more controversy as well as how Sven doesn’t really have his mind on the job.

England will get to the quarterfinal stage and then lose again on penalties.

Brazil all the way, too classy and skilful

Thats the beauty of Brazil IMHO. They have talent to burn and a huge pride where each of the stars puts the country in front of their egos. They are all stars in their own right but when they pull on a national guerensey they all play together as a team and each one of them will sacrifise their game for the good of the country. Got to admire that.

I do agree from a betting point of view the price is too short but crickey, I reckon its for a good reason too. No one will come close to them.

Karma seems to be catching up with young Rooney too.

Although I have been a Man Utd fan for 24 years, the behaviour of Wayne Rooney towards officials is disgraceful. You don't need to be an excellent lip-reader to know what he is saying a lot of the time.

With him in the side, England have the potential to make the semis or even further.

Brazil all the way. They will be almost impossible to beat.

Indeed Stiffy. I would love to see their full strength side on the pitch at once. Add Kaka, Lucio, Emerson and Rubinho to those names mentioned and watch out!!

That why the USA Dream Team lost the gold medal at the last Olympic game (Greece) and World Championships (Indianapolis), ego got in the way and they could not work in harmony.

This year the USA selectors are picking a side that is built around teamwork as well as having a few role players who will be willing to play some defence

Ego doesnt get in the way of Brazil winning the World Cup though. Last time there was a bit of competition between Ronaldo and Rivaldo to score in every game, and they ended up flogging most teams. Brazil will win it again.. easily.

Without Rooney, England are stuffed. Even with him in the team, they arent good enough to win. Their attack is nowhere near as good as Brazil's, Gerrard and Lampard are both quality but they would have also had to rely on Rooney pulling out class goals every match. Plus their manager is hopeless, Hiddink is far better honestly.

Its strange though, the last tournament... a lot of hope was placed on Beckham and he broke/fractured his metatarsal, same as Rooney.

Robinson

G. Neville - Terry - Rio/Sol - A. Cole

Becks - Lampard - Gerrard - J. Cole

Owen - Rooney

Pound for pound only Brazil have a stronger eleven.

DT - it also comes down to the manager too, England are strong on paper, if everybody fires but with a poor manager they can struggle.

I remember when they were a goal down against a 10 man Brazil side in the last world cup, yet didnt change the formation and hardly even attacked.

Precisely, hence my original qualifier:

I think ego had a lot to do with it but IMHO the team selection was also a major factor. Most of the players that were selected were just not suite to international basketball. Now they have gone down the track of selecting players that suit international basketball and are also good team-mates. As a result expect a much better showing from Team USA in the upcoming events. I think their squad is pretty good and if they can make the right selection from the squad to make a 12 men team then they will be a forced to be reckoned with.

Not Fu*king Happy:mad:

I'd rather he be rested for the World Cup. Apparently he told teammates after the game that we wouldn't be fit for it anyway.

Super Crouch will spearhead the attack now. :D

It is a tough situation.

Obviously the injury woes of Owen have been well documented. He could either be a real wildcard, or his lack of matchplay could be a liability. Rooney is the one who I think the hopes of a victory are pinned on.

I dont trust Snoop Dog Ferdinand back there either.

why be so bothered by the enemy?

don't we have our own problems with Mark Schwarzer?

Pound for pound only Brazil have a stronger eleven.

but you're still talking about a team of massive underachievers, who lack heart, play with no width, and lack imagination.

besides only 3 or 4 of the above have been in decent form.
Sol can't make the first XI
A cole hasn't played in 6 months
Lampard has been awful the last 3 months or so
Beckham insists on drifting too far inside, instead of offering service from wide right. plus he's not a big game player.
Gary Neville is a water carrier
Owen hasn't played regularly in how long?

which leaves Terry, Gerrard, J Cole & Rooney. and one of those probably won't play.

England, lots of talent, but flatter to deceive. they just don't produce.

and then you have a manager whose emperor's new clothes act is wearing thin. he's a statue come match day.
