I’m glad our players recognised what a bad state he was in and didn’t test him out as the commentators were urging, it could’ve ended really badly if they did.
This many times over.
The fact that our players didn’t ’test him out’ once again reflects well on the culture at our club, and a kind of maturing in football. Players looking out for each other, despite the colours of their jumpers, is a wonderful thing to see.
Imagine if McCreery had lined him up? Or Maynard?
But they didn’t, and this care - or whatever it was - on the field is so much better than the thuggish behaviour of old.
I know the dinosaurs will say - as some commentators did - that if he’s on the field he should be treated the same as everyone else. And maybe in a win at all costs Grand Final Petracca’s condition would have been exploited. But it wasn’t, and we didn’t, and you love to see it.
