Have just heard our current stock of tall players may be unavailable and with Mooney already out....., jeez we could have really stretched the doggies this week, but now..... has anyone else heard any better news about our talls??

They said the same thing about Mooney last week though. He didn't train all week and ended up playing on Sunday. But let's hope Ottens and King play because if they don't it could mean *gasp* Kent gets another go in the seniors.

I would not stress. They all will play. They've been on restricted programs all years and its understandable to have some general soreness after a tough game.

All got through the game last week and will play this week.

Cats by 27 points.

GEELONG coach Mark Thompson threw his support behind suspended Cameron Mooney yesterday, saying he didn't want the forward to lose all his mean streak.

Suspended for the second time this season after punching Port Adelaide's Josh Mahoney to the body, Mooney is remorseful about missing the game against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday and leaving the Cats minus a key hand. But Thompson has seen improvement in Mooney. He has almost shed the wild-man reputation for that of an on-field leader who sometimes edges towards the brink.
"I don't think it will ever evaporate out of his game," Thompson said. "The coaching staff like his physicality and the way he attacks the ball when it's in his area.
"We'd like him to just curb it a little bit, but we'd still like Cameron Mooney to be the Cameron Mooney that he is. That's tough and hard and a little bit scary.
"The two times he's been reported, even though it's going to hurt us this week, they were only minor incidents, and that tells me he's improved a fair bit since three years ago."
With Mooney serving his one-game suspension, Henry Playfair will be called in from a VFL stint to fill a key forward role against the Bulldogs, who beat the Cats by one point at Telstra Dome in Round 4.
Playfair has managed just five AFL games this season, but his form in the VFL has warranted promotion.
"He's been in very good form and has just been waiting for his chance," Thompson said.

Assuming that everyone is available, I can't see the reasoning behind bringing Playfair back.
Simply because we've lost a tall [ Mooney ] doesn't mean he should be replaced with another tall; put our best 22 out there, and that doesn't include Henry in my opinion.

Much rather see them rotate some smaller, more mobile guys through there [ Mackie, Bartel, Milburn ] then pick Playfair simply because he has the height.
Also playing him and McCarthy, as well as Ottens at times, in the forward line together could be a recipe for disaster against the doggies lightning quick rebounding defenders.

Keep it simple, bring Riccardi in to inject some pace and experience, a far better option them Playfair I would think.

Despite Playfair's indifferent form, we play better with him. Or in other words, we play better when we have a big target.

Not so sure I'd agree with you there, we've played some pretty ordinary footy when he's been in the side.
Personally I don't think he's anywhere near good enough to hold down what is arguably the most difficult position on the field, and although he may be a big target, he's actually not as good overhead as Milburn or Bartel, so I don't see us gaining anything by having him there, plus, do you think we can play him, McCarthy, and Ottens down forward, especially against a team like Footscray?
