What a beauty this pick up was... What a great pre season... 4 goals again richmond in the NABCUP.

:thumbsd:

WASTE OF MONEY AND PICKS.

WASTE OF SPACE

Try and dare defend him after today and the past 2 seasons.

KK/Haynes/SJ/Menchy/Ronnie Burns all make him look horrible.

And our midfielders made it very easy for him!!

I agree that Ottens was nto the best, but I think he only had about two decent kicks to him!

His ruckwork was also good. Minson had no idea.

Minson had 16 hit outs and 14 possessions to Ottens 14 hit outs and 8 possessions. I wouldn't say Minson had no idea on those stats compared to Ottens. Unless you can quote stats when Minson and Ottens competed against each other your argument is very flimsy.

Was it just me or did we look a lot better when Ottens was in the ruck and Blake was thankfully off the ground? Because as totally ineffectual as Ottens was up forward he was not as bad as Blake was in the ruck. Slaughtered by Minson and pushed around at will. No wonder they got first use all day.

I thought any coach with half a brain would have left Ottens to ruck all game and just left Mooney and Nathan Ablett up forward. Both looked dangerous at times and I thought today was probably Nathan Ablett's most solid senior performance.

Then I did remember who the coach was.

He would have had alot of those against Blake.

At least 3 times in ball-ups, Ottens totally out-muscled Minson.

Minson isnt a football player anyway, just a thug.

Exactly. Leave Ottens in the ruck and plonk Blake at FF and tell him to not leave the little whit box (surely couldn't miss from there) OR that was a good time to experiment with Milburn/Scarlett up forward for a quarter.

You make very little sense young fella. You also sound like a very poor loser!

Ottens had a shocker. Also, Ottens is not a gun like the media and some fans portray him as. He is a good to average footballer. Nothing better. Nothing worse.

Soupy has some bewildering views about football, so best to let this thread go to the keeper anyway.

I will speak slowly.

Minson vs Blake - Minson probably won.
Minson vs Ottens - Ottens won.

Minson is just a thug. Tries to kick people. Just a general thug. Nothing more, nothing less.

Im not a poor loser, but I will not give players credit when they do not deserve it eg Minson.

I wouldn't have even done that. In my view leave Nathan Ablett and Mooney as the sole tall forwards. Both are good on the ground where Ottens isn't. The rest leave to crumbers - of which we had zero today. Plus Ottens is a better ruckman on a bad day than Blake ever will be.

Why plonk Blake at FF? Last I checked you can't handball goals. :p

Well, the way I see it, even the worst kick cant miss from the square.

That's assuming two things of course:

1. We can kick it properly to him, and
2. He can mark it.

Judging by today's game, neither of those will occur.

"Who's going to stop Ottens? Too big, too strong!" Blah blah blah blah
DUD!!!!!!
Everytime Ottens has a crap game the coach and supporters get on the front foot with the usual "but he had 15 hit outs"! Please:rolleyes:

We could give him Inspector Gadget arms. Then he could mark anything within a 15m radius, so even the crapiest kick to the top of the square would be a certain mark.
But our midfielders can't kick within 15 meters of a target :(

What strikes me about Ottens at FF is that someone thinks he is a leading forward. He is too slow. His value up forward is with a big body in a contest close to goal. Nablett knows how to lead (but usually gets crap delivery) and Moons is good at both the body work and can lead. SO ? Why was Ottens playing out on the 50 and moons in the square for the bulk of the second disaster quarter? Someones got no brains.

If Ottens is to ruck so be it. But lets get rid of any idea he is a leading forward and should be taking marks on the lead at the 50. We have to hope for further improvement from Nablett and hope Hawkins gets up to speed soon (and the midfielders who can deliver continue to get a game and those who make the forwards look bad go play twos).
