Ottens to do a Campbell (?)

Now, if I'm being silly here please tell me.
Could Brad Ottens do what Wayne Campbell did years back when he was almost at North Melbourne.
Nothing ends up happening and he plays the rest of his career at Richmond. The similarities are coincidentally freaky. $$$ talk, will anyone be prepared to take Ottens demands

IIRC Cambo wanted to leave mainly because he wasn't happy with the direction the Club was heading at that time whereas Otto is leaving because he still expects to be paid $$$ despite form. Given the number of potential suitors, I'd expect by this time next week Otto will no longer be a Richmond player.

Sorry aint gonna happen.

We have a smarter bunch of people around the club this time, so this will not be possible. I just wish they kicked Campbells a s s out when he wanted to go.

As far as i am concerned, Otto doesn't want to play for the Yellow and Black. Therefore, i wouldn't take him back at all.

If it was 'in HIS blood' he would have stuck around NO MATTER WHAT. Instead he goes chasing the $$$$. Not a true Richmond man and i would be happy to see the back of him.

Put it this way, if Ottens came back and said he was wrong and he wanted to stay, but he just said things in anger over some argument, I'd say you're welcome back

Ottens leaving had nothing to do with arguements. It is purely for the $$$.

I don't think the club would want him back, they are trying to build a culture of players only wanting to play for Richmond, he would be a bad influence on all the kids.

If Ottens did come back I'd insist he have an operation to insert a steel rod down his back.............
Just go jellyback, any number of players/draft choices is better than one spineless, insipid gorm.

Totally agree with you mate, if he "does' stay at Richmond whats the point. he probably play even worse than he actually ahs been just so he'll get the sack, and get picked up by another club who is willing to pay him, it ridiculous keeping him if he doesnt want to be there. Hes money hungry and has no loyalty. Who ever wants him can keep him. Heartless Pig

Loyalty in football is a dead concept. Except for Richo it seems.

I'd add A & D kellaway to that list, despite what you think of there football abilities.

Fact is there is a chance that he may remain at punt rd.

It`s all ducks and drakes this time of year .

Ottens has said he wants x amount of $$$ and Miller called his bluff .

Don`t agree with people saying that loyalty is dead ,there are a heap of examples of players staying put for less money , look at Copeland and Solomon with us last year . That is what i find the most dissappointing thing about Ottens that he dosen`t see that the club is struggling financially at the minute . All he wants is the biggest pay check he can get . Good luck to him i say , I hope he goes and Miller gets 2 first rounders for him . To me he has shown that he is both over-rated as a bloke and a player .

Copeland and Solomon weren't actively seeking to leave their clubs though, they only considered it because we came a knocking. I think it's gotten to the point where we need to move Ottens on, it would be setting a bad example to the kids in my opinion having someone around who was so keen to leave. We need to establish a culture of players being at Richmond for life, it's guys like Richo and Bowden who are Richmond through and through that we want influencing kids at our club.

Yer , the point is they stayed loyal to thier clubs for less money

Personally I'd prefer to have players that are professional footballers than blokes who just play out of loyalty to the club. I've known plenty of blokes at all levels of footy that move from club to club, often chasing money or premierships. They may not be the first to man the barbie at the Sunday session, but when it comes to playing and training they are driven by success. You mightn't want a team full of them, but neither do you want a team of blokes who just love to be out there playing for the club and any win is a bonus.

BTW. Has any player ever been more dissappointed to be drafted by a club than Coughlan was when we drafted him? I'm sure most fans are happy we did anyway.

As for Ottens, he may or may not end up back at the club. With the number of potential suitors, it seems unlikely that a deal won't be worked out. His situation is a bit different to Stevens last year. Stevens didn't get to his first choice of club, but could still fulfil his primary objective of moving back to Victoria by going in the draft. The Ottens saga will fall into one of these scenarios from last year:
  1. The Nathan Brown scenario. Will get to one of his preferred clubs with a deal that suited all parties.
  2. The Jade Rawlings scenario. Will miss out on his preferred club and end up so pee'd off he will go into the PSD even though it means ending up at a club he didn't want to go to.
  3. The Ray Hall scenario. Richmond accepted a deal from Geelong, but Hall said no. Hall accepted an offer from Sydney, but they couldn't do a deal acceptable to Richmond. Rather than go to a club he didn't want, he swallowed some pride and came back to Richmond, Richmond swallowed some pride and offered him a longer contract than they originally offered, and he re-signed. Ottens could possibly re-sign with a slightly better contract than originally offered.

As far as I'm concerned, either scenario 1 or 3 would be acceptable (as long as 3 didn't amount to paying him the money other clubs are offering).

Well if Ottens did a Campbell, then that means he decided he wants to play for us, so that would be best outcome I think. I'd rather not have an overload of youth. Who says all these drafts will make it anyway. I'd much prefer a ruckman/forward with Ottens ability than any other type of big man.
