I read a comment by HBF in another thread that we have not lost a final Qtr yet!!! I find this to be great news and is a great compliment to our fitness staff especially with the ruthless tackling and commitment shown in the first 5 rounds this year. My question is do you think we can keep it up? We have a lot of young players and history tells us that they will get tired soon and drop off a bit. I personally think that if we rotate well this year we can overcome this and hopefully win around 80% of our final Qtrs come years end. No doubt we are off to a great start and lets keep it going!!

Our aerobic fitness this year has had as much to do with our successes as any other factor. Hats off to Cordy (?) and his panel. Memories of running out of legs in the past couple of seasons are fading fast. Great stuff. :thumbsu:

Could also have something to do with our players having one or two extra seasons under their belt. Young teams do tend to run out of legs.

Round 1: 5.3.33 to 1.3.9
Round 2: 5.3.33 to 5.2.32
Round 3: 3.3.21 to 2.7.19
Round 4: 3.1.19 to 2.5.17
Round 5: 6.0.36 to 3.2.20
Total: 25.10.160 to 13.19.97

Yep i remember those years Thy. Good to see it is being rectified :thumbsu:

Extremely happy we extended our lead the other day, especially going on past years, but as I wrote in another thread I hate then time wasting rubbish. I understand they could be very tired but surely we can attack for a bit longer.
I believe it was the 21 minute mark on Saturday and the quarter went for nearly 30 minutes.

It is not just the last quarters that we seem to be running out but the last few minutes of quarters. I dont have any stats but my perception is we are running out quarters well also. I highlighted in the JR thread my fave moment of the weekend, that occured with less than a minute to go in the half. It is a sign of discipline that we play out every minute of games and not mentally head to the breaks a few minutes before the quarter is over. Those red time goals against us hurt, so its good to see us scoring them.

Round 1: 5.3.33 to 1.3.9
Round 2: 5.3.33 to 5.2.32
Round 3: 3.3.21 to 2.7.19
Round 4: 3.1.19 to 2.5.17
Round 5: 6.0.36 to 3.2.20
Total: 25.10.160 to 13.19.97
Puts a smile on my face to see that. :thumbsu:

Well, since I'm in a good mood. I'll do the rest of the QTR's aswell :)

1st Qtr

R1: 8.4.52 vs. 3.4.22
R2: 3.2.20 vs. 3.3.21
R3: 4.6.30 vs. 1.4.10
R4: 3.5.23 vs. 3.0.18
Total: 18.17.125 vs. 10.11.71

2nd Qtr

R1: 5.1.31 vs. 3.3.21
R2: 8.3.51 vs. 1.3.9
R3: 3.4.22 vs. 7.2.44
R4: 0.7.7 vs 4.2.26
R5: 7.2.44 vs. 5.3.33
Total: 23.17.155 vs. 20.13.133

3rd Qtr

R1: 5.4.34 vs. 2.3.15
R2: 2.3.15 vs. 6.2.38
R3: 6.3.39 vs. 7.1.43
R4: 3.0.18 vs. 3.5.23
R5: 4.4.28 vs. 4.1.25
Total: 20.14.134 vs. 22.12.144

So, statistically our 3rd qtr's have been our worst

So we always start strong in the 1st always finish well in the 4th.

Noticed when we have lost the 2nd quarter we have lost and when we have won it we won the game so ill be crossing my fingers we win the 2nd quarter this week.

From memory, last year 4th quarter was also good.

I would like us to win the 3rd quarter more consistently - that is typically where the game is won.

As for player "running out of legs" should that not read "running on legs"?

Hows about walking on sunshine before running on legs?

We need to win the premiership quarter!

Maths...

22.10.142 to 13.19.97

Still good though ;) Although it is the same amount of shots on goal, we're just more accurate.

Not sure how I got 25 from all that, but thanks for the correction :thumbsu:

I posted earlier that I thought we were running out quarters better. I have done the stats. Often mentally weak sides switch off in the last few minutes of quarters (red time) and often take a while to get going in the first 5 minutes of quarters, whether it is nerves or feeling out the opposition but getting the first goal of a quarter is often crucial in terms of confidence. Often the first 5 minutes of each quarter signals a teams intent and the last 5 their mental toughness and endurance.

So far we have smashed our opponents in these 2 critical sectors of quarters.

First 5 minutes we are 18 goals to 6. (I did not count points, perhaps I should have, given we lost 2 games even though we peppered the goals but missed).

Last 5 minutes we are 14 goals to 5.

We are clearly coming out strongly at the start and after breaks and stamping our authority in that time, and we are also mentally strong and physically fit in that we are running quarters out well also.

Good signs.
