Upon reading the thread about Embley, I was thinking of who could play a similar role to himself and to what a Kouta type (I say 'type' because I don't think we have anyone on the list at the moment who can replace him, at his best, then again i dont think anyone has a player on their list that could do that) used to play, i.e. a hard running mid who would usually outmark opponents etc etc....

I know I have missed one or two, who else is their??

The first that comes to mind is Judd (though not as good overhead) at 189cm, their is also: Russel, Walker, Grigg, could they play this role as an attacking tall mid that is hard to match up on??

If all these guys developed we would have a very damaging rotating midfield/half forward that was quick and good in the air.

I am really getting excited at the potential we have at the club, I hope the injection of these development coaches, Judd and the enthusiasm enjoyed at the club now will fast track the success that is inevitable in the coming years....

I don't rate Russell.

I agree with you on he other 3 though.

I have a feeling about Russel. I think he will turn it around next year, when he isnt used as a tagger.

I remember when Kouta first started they were playing him in the backline which IMO he wasn't the best at, then all of a sudden they put him in the midfield and the rest is history. I am not saying that will eventuate with Russel however I think that running half forward/wing type player will suit him more than tagging.

6' is not even 183cm!

Therefore in our midfield rotation, the players over 6' are:

Anderson
Bannister
Benjamin
Bentick
Carazzo
Gibbs
Grigg
Hadley
Houlihan
Jackson
Judd
Russell
Walker

Hehe, very good, I probably meant around the 6'2 ish about 190cm with pace and agility, the guy who looks closest to that is Tex ATM. Of the extra guys you listed I think Benjamin could be added as he has the explosive pace as well as height, tho from all reports needs to improve dramtically.

The rest either dont have the height or pace.

Russell is 188, so if we use that as the cutoff, we still have:

Anderson
Bannister
Benjamin
Gibbs
Grigg
Hadley
Judd
Russell
Walker

and Carrots and Hoops just missing out at 187

Let me put it another way, of those selected above, I think Walker, Russel, Judd, Grigg and Benjamin have a combination of height, natural ability and speed to fill the role. You could probably add Houlihan to that group however, his game wont be improved like the others will and could.

I'd have Hadley and Bannister in there before Russell and Anderson and Gibbs ahead of Benjamin and Grigg.

Do you really think that Anderson and Gibbs have the potential to play a similar role to Embley ahead of Banjamin and Grigg??? I see Gibbs as more of a genuine midfielder and not that strong overhead and Anderson as more of a hard nut back pocket. Hadley is to slow and Bannister hasnt got the natural ability.

I am not comparing ability here, i am suggesting who could play a role similar to Embley.

I've got a feeling about Russell next year. The game he played against Collingwood the second time around showed he could play that lead up HFF type. I'd like to see him get first crack at it next year. Houlihan is also another option up there as well.

I think we are really desperate for a good foward flanker. Who do you think will be around at 36 that could be a good option (assuming we don't take Cotch at 1)? I was thinking maybe Motlop from the NT.What are your thoughts on him?

I'd love Veszpremi or Maaric but they will probably be gone.

Approximately.

6x12x2.54=182.88 cms.

Kreuzer, Hampson and A.O'hAilpin - 200 cm tall running mids. :thumbsu:  :)

No Cotchin I'm afraid.

I also have a feeling Russell will develop this year and play HFF/wing/onball.
Does Hamspon have the engine?

His speed with the chase vs Roos after he turned his first kick over was phenomenal, but does anyone know his endurance/beep test from last year?

Agree with the feeling on Russ. I think Ratts will get the best out of him.

Hadley would be your closest man to play an Embley type role, when he was at the Lions there was a time where Hadley (playing in the midfield) was taller than our CHB in Justin Leppitsch. You certainly wouldnt class Richard as a speedster but he has a good motor as well as that big body presence in the centre bounce. He was a favourite of mine at the Lions.

Hampson 13.4 Beep, Kreuzer 14.3

Cheers.
13.4 still pretty good for a guy 2m.:thumbsu:

Maybe it was more his mental efforts in getting to contest rather than his engine.
Very promising.

I wouldnt mind if he was, but i am thinking more of brilliance, that can do the extraordinary. I think Hadley is more of your consistent hard worker, which is also important as well, but not that guy who can take a big mark then run and bounce.

Walker is the most obvious, he just needs to have belief in himself and he will really take another big step. He seems to nearly do a lot of things like a big mark or a great goal, but at the last minute he seems to hesitate and not let his natural ability follow through. I know this will sound wanky but I reckon once he just lets his mind and body do what it can, do he will be much better for it.

I also like the look of Grigg as he has got a bit of size with good skills. I am hoping that Grigg or Benjamin can also play a similar role. Benjamin has the athletic ability but not sure if he has the football talent of Grigg.

Go crawl back under your rock General.
Cotchin only looks good because he has Kreuzer tapping the ball to him. ;)

It's similar to the argument about Cox making Judd a better player with his taps setting him free.

Now that we have the one and only Judd, we need possibly the next Dean Cox and not Cotchin.

Simple. :)

There will be another a class midfielder like Cooney, Wells Deledio, Griffen, Cotchin, Selwood or Murphy in the next draft or two.

You can't guarantee we will find another Kreuzer when we finish 12th or higher in the next two years.

They will be snapped up in the first four picks like Leuenberger and Kreuzer. ;)

This is the US version of an inch. The same country that deliberately corrupted their version of the english language so they could be different to the english.

If you drop off the .04 and do the same calculation, you end up with 180cm which is the English version. The Americans just went for the extra precision to make their 6' people look taller than the English

Do friends ever come to your house?

yeah... all the time :D

but honestly, the main reason I know the difference is from watching a wales v australia rugby match and they put up the height of on of the players as 180cm (6'). So I worked out the maths.
