Would like to know where our standing is in the league now in regards to our back six.
Easily the strongest part of the ground. You can go to a game now knowing they will stand up. Rarely beaten.
All play their roles so well. Obviously Rance is the best 1 on 1 defender in the comp.
Batch and Grimes play their roles so well rarely beaten.
Houli the quarterback
Vlaus the engine room, wins the one on ones and gets his hands dirty.
Chappy the glue that makes it stick. Organises them really well much like dare i say it maxwell did for collingwood.
So i am interested to know. Where do we stand in the grand scheme of things?
To me it has the hallmarks of a premiership backline (not saying this year)

Do you have trouble sleeping? The second quarter would fix it.
In games like these, my focus turns to our back six and how they performed

Full Back: Jake Batchelor 188cm 88kg. Can play as the 2-3 tall lock down type or as a rebounding back.

Alex Rance: 194cm 96kg. The gun player. Can do anything from shutting down the oppositions most dangerous forward to running it out of the 50 and hitting targets further up.

Dylan Grimes 193cm 89kg. Similar to Batch. Can play on smalls or talls and can cut off kicks inside the defense.

Half Backs: Nick Vlaustuin 187cm 86kg. Rebounding intercept type player. Regulary cuts off kicks from the opposition.

Troy Chaplin 195cm 97kg. Big bodied gorilla type. Important part of our backline I reckon, can play deep and let's Rance play with a bit more freedom. Good intercept player and can find the ball.

Bachar Houli 180cm 84kg. Regularly pumps the ball out of our back half.

Batchelor - Rance - Grimes
Vlastuin - Chaplin - Houli

That's a fairly even and potent backline. They are all capable of playing each others roll, which adds to the even part and all complement each other. I reckon that our backline would be top 5 in the league.

Love these guys. Theyve been immense!!

Maybe if we can get astbury in as well some how we can get say a Bachelor, houli, vlastuin up the ground a bit more too. Although I know at thti stage dont want to mess around with whats working etc. But i like the options.

Still not a fan of chaplin. Does 1 really good thing then 3 really bad things. He always looks like hes going to go to ground and hes really not all that good 1 on 1. He can play well when hes zoning off but hes not really a good kick either. He does at least try and stay calm. I'd much rather astbury than him

Lose just the one Rance we have and the backline has shown itself up as a little too brittle for mine.

Imo we can improve the backline substantially but you have to actually be looking to improve for it to happen.

Dont you believe we are??

I think the improvement in batch and grimes particularly Prooves we are

Backline is looking very solid. I would like to see Dea play a bit at some stage, although he'll probably only get in if there's an injury. Unlike most others here I rate him. Need Astbury to come along and take Chaplin's spot in the next year or two.

Batch is going ok, he still needs to improve a bit though imo.

Vlastuin most people reckon he'll go into the middle at some stage, but to me he looks very natural in the backline and I can see him playing out a really good career there. One of my favourite players.
