If we are going to be anything in the AFL other than a laughing stock our challenges are huge. The toughest of any of the other 14 teams. We must be able to beat 10 Victorian teams on either the MCG or Docklands. We must be able to beat 2 South Australian teams on AAMI. We must be able to beat Sydney at either the SCG or ANZ. We must be able to beat Brisbane at the Gabba and most of all we must be able to beat them all on Subiaco. Our record on the MCG, Docklands, AAMI, SCG, ANZ and the Gabba is deplorable and as for Subi it's heading south with the away grounds. We must also be able to play through the bad umpiring decisions as though the umpires were irrelevant. All of the above is a tall tall order and on the current form would appear to be a long long long way off.

The challenge is simple. Find enough players with the required talent and mental application to be AFL footballers. Stop making excuses for those who don't and move them on.

I agree Geoff and GR, we do need to be able to win away from home. And we need players who can play CONSISTENT good/ decent footy week in week out.

I get the feeling after watching Harvey's press conference, moving players on is something that he is very comfortable with doing. He was probably shittier about yesterday than the Adelaide game.

I noted the same tone.

I think first goal should be to make Subiaco a fortress and become dominant there, as this is our major advantage over the Vic clubs and where our biggest improvement in terms of ladder position will come from. Away games will grow in importance once we achieve a dominant home record ... imo it is not essential to have good win-loss records on every away ground, apart for the MCG (obviously).

Realistically I think the club should be aiming for these sort of goals:

2010: Push for the 8 ... win more than at least 6/12 home games and pinch at least 2/10 away games ... the key is to be competitive on a weekly basis
2011: Make the 8 ... win at least 8/12 home games, and win at least 3/10 away games again being competitive in all
2012: Push for the top 4 and make at least week 2 of finals ... win at least 9/12 home games and at least 4/10 away games
2013: Make the top 4 and at least week 3 of finals ... win at least 10/12 home games and at least 5/10 away games
