That would just prove we are are ashamed of our white jumper.
I sure am.
GWS is our worst clash. They are gong to be near the top for a while. Make a clash jumper that is recognisable as Hawthorn please.
No matter what clash jumper we come up with its always going to be inferior to our normal home strip. Its the same with every club.
In all honesty though, I don't think clash jumpers are necessary at all.

One more thing that was won by not a hawks fan and anyone could vote. But I suppose we do have a BOMBERS supporter as president

The winner was a Hawks fan - the two losing entries were by a Richmond fan.

And Garvey is a former * fan. If his background aggrieves you so, run against him next time around.

Ranting and raving? hold your horses, Im merely seeking discussion on a football forum.

Well let's discuss it then. I'll ask again - being that the AFL dictates the guernsey be predominantly white, please enlighten us as to how it should look?

In 97 the saints deliberately wore another strip (played the crows. Omen?)

Geelong have often worn the white shorts to help the situation when entitled not to

AFL should be more pragmatic and less dogmatic

Simple fact is Hawks don't clash with anyone
Good guy Geelong, where white stripe because they look better in it than you.

Richmond don't have a white strip. We should be fighting any directive for us to have one.
I would have us revert to out 1950 - 74 strip for home. It was half brown and half gold. No gold sides or back, the alternating stripes went all the way around. Worn with brown shorts
Light clash - gold base, back and sides like 1980s, with three thinner gold strips on the front. Would be 90% gold like the Tigers clash. Worn with white or gold shorts and gold socks (how good do the Matildas look in all gold!). Worn away v WC, Crows, Bris & Tigers.
Dark clash - inverse of above. Worn v GWS & GC.

All fine ideas - but the AFL demands white, so white it is. As I keep saying - you can whine all you like about the white clash guernsey designs or you can try and think of something that works and submit it to the club.

There are honest to god issues to fight the AFL on - I'd rather the club save the fighting for those than have a cry about a clash/alternative guernsey.

As it stands we have enough variants of our home and away (gold on brown) with white shorts to never have to worry about wearing our clash in a grand final. If we were playing Adelaide there's no way our home strip with white shorts wouldn't be allowable. The only other one that would be maybe problematic would maybe be GWS - but I think again the white shorts would be enough to do it.

until all clubs have a predominantly white Guernsey it's worth asking why any club has to
maybe they do I don't pay that much attention but I've yet to see a Pies clash jumper that is mainly white
it shouldn't be a fine that clubs can play or avoid, you just have two kits, and even better, try to make the away one traditional by keeping it for more than two years

Look I'd much prefer something more traditional and less white. And there are clubs who get away with more, like Collingwood. But there are bigger fish to fry with the AFL, which I'm sure the club knows as well - so picking a fight over a guernsey that gets worn 4-5 times a year isn't really worth the battle.

Hence my argument to those people so aggrieved at the situation - make a design that satisfies the AFL demand and pays homage to our colours more. I'm sure it can be done. Being that I have zero graphic design skills I'm not throwing my hat in the ring.

That and I don't hate the current one because I love the HFC crest and feel it deserves to be featured.

To each their own... I think ensuring Hawthorn plays in brown and gold on Grand Final day actually is one of the bigger fish we should be gearing ourselves up for. Not sure what other frying fish there is about, actually.

Our main clashes would potentially be with GWS or Adelaide. As I stated earlier - our current home guernsey with white shorts would alleviate any concerns in both cases - like it did against West Coast. Particularly as the GWS guernsey is all orange in the back.

Shown next to each other - based on how bright that orange is - I don't think there would be any issue differentiating who was who on TV.

Eagles always had a second design and always played the grand final in it, not sure why but that's their tradition

Pretty sure it's because they've won all their premierships in the 'wings' guernsey so they revert to it if they make a grand final.

yeah more to do with why they played in the wings guersney in a grand final in the first place

That doesn’t look a problem, but what about from further away?

Also don’t put our Hodgey next to that thug!

I don't see it being an issue from afar - especially if the Giants wore their white shirts as it would blend in with the white patch on the guernsey and look utterly different from our strip. Otherwise I am sure that if we were to play them that they could wear their predominantly white strip because their 12 fans wouldn't give a stuff.

And I didn't make the image - blame google!

The back of the jumpers is the problem.

Yes, but the AFL's logic is - well you wore a clash during the season so there must be a clash. The problems is that we wear our clash even when we don't need to and this is tacit acceptance that we have a clash. The AFL has said we clash with WCE, Crowd and GWS. Yes, they may be blind, but why has the club never questioned this?

Yea they boiled the frog

The last thing Richmond needed was a jumper controversy internally
They'll probably do quite well in merchandise sales too
