The season is only two games old but it looks like all four teams who have played so far are copying the Bulldogs 2016 game plan. That is fast ball movement and hit the scoreboard. It's almost like 1970's football.

How are we shaping up ? What's our style going to be in 2017 ? Are we going to be defensive or go down the Western Bulldogs path ?

I haven't followed the pre-season close enough to have an informed opinion. It's a straight forward question.

Bulldog play contested football also. Balance is the key.

One can only dream. We'll be defensive and when we have the ball we'll simply without a second thought just bomb it in long........or off course we have the ball and there is no one forward.

The average score in 2016 was 93.1 points. Regularly kicking 100+ takes us into an elite level, and given we are in a semi rebuild with a rejigged and inexperienced forward line it isn't my expectation that we will do that. But I think we can keep most opposition to <100

Our average in 2016 was 71.54 points per game. So we'll need a big improvement on that.

Like others I was worried about our scoring but with Suban, a renowned goal kicker, replacing Ballas (who only has a 1.6 goal per game career average) it should really up the ante with our ability to score big numbers.

If we squander the new ruck rule advantage by having 211 continue to shovel a ball-up directly to his feet ad nauseam I will be angry. We should be hitting the ball to dozens of positions of advantage for Fyfe and co.

Agree in most but With that said I noticed more cohesion regarding create space for the designated 'receiver' of sandi's taps through the JLT. We had guys running to open space and others blocking well at ruck duels. It's good to see and the new rule will allow more set play work to hopefully transpire

It took McCarthy to kick 6 goals for Freo to score over 100 points. I just can't see Freo kicking 100+ points reguarly, if at all.

Yeah the forward line is pretty potato at the moment. But we know that, and I don't think anyone should be realistically expecting 100+ scores.

It'll take a while for new personnel to gel, and we probably need an actual KPF.

Anyone harbouring expectations we will be playing finals this year is going to be seriously disappointed. We are miles off the pace.

While I was willing to ignore our first two pre-season games as 'blowing out the cobwebs' there were too many troubling factors to ignore in our win over Carlton in the final lead up.

Despite playing our best available squad we struggled to put away a team who are second favourites for the wooden spoon.

Fyfe, Neale, Mundy and S. Hill played the full game and amassed 135 disposals between them, Cam Mac bobbed up with six goals and yet we couldn't blow the Blues away (at home). Melbourne (54 pts) and St Kilda (92 pts) had no such problems.

We still struggle to find any system bringing the ball into our forward line. Yes we scored a number of goals from Carlton turnovers where we kicked long to an open forward line. Looks great when it comes off, we won't get those opportunities against better teams and it also doesn't work in the wet. A couple of pieces of Fyfe magic, a 50m penalty goal etc. We still have to manufacture goals, nothing comes easy. Don't get me started on our switching play across half back.

Watching the first two games this season it's obvious the game has moved forward another gear. I fear we don't have that gear.

Realistically if we played either of those games (in Melbourne) we wouldn't have got close to Richmond or Western B's. We wouldn't have beaten Collingwood. We would have managed first quarter and a half Carlton, we would have had our hands full with last 2 1/2 quarters Carlton.

We need to win most of our home games, we're going to be road kill over East.

With average injury luck to our star players I see us winning about 7 games.
With good injury luck to our star players and Harley making an early return and finding his form early, we may win 9 or 10 games.
With bad injury luck to our star payers and Harley making a belated start and taking time to find his form, we may win 4 or 5 games.

Were you there? I sat directly behind the Freo bench. We were only running at 3/4 speed for most of the game and about half speed in the last quarter - once Spurr and Ballaz were injured.

Not saying we're premiership contenders, but the Carlton game wasn't the best yardstick of where we are at the moment.

The prosecution rests.

I look at Sydney with Tippett, Reid, buddy and Adelaide with Tex, Jenkins, lynch, mcgovern and betts and scratch my head thinking how the **** we expect to compete in the front half with these teams.

We are so undergunned up front - it's like we're elephant hunting with BB guns
