It's all about opportunity mate, Naughton right place at the right time. The three guys played 21, 20 , 18 games as first years yes
Gowers was a mature ager, but he did nothing at Carlton of note. As a club it's hard to contend with that many first years in an
age demographic sense, but it could be of benefit down the track. If you have ever been to training the first years generally
sit out a lot of the drills and are carefully managed or loaded.

Of course it’s about opportunity. Sport often is. Opportunity created about half a dozen premiership players in 2016. But once it’s taken, you have to acknowledge the performance that follows. Fletcher Roberts, Joel Hamling and Zaine Cordy didn’t finish top 4 in the B&F. Naughton did. In his first year. Yes there were a lot of great players in 16 performing at a much higher level than out of form 2018 players and rookies and Naughton took his opportunity in a bad year to play well but the fact is he still played well in those 18 games. Ed and Billy were wildly inconsistent with flashes of brilliance to encourage us but were invisible at other times. But Naughton was solid all year and worthy of his place every week. No gift games like Lewis Young in 17. He’s separated from the other two as the one that didn’t need opportunity. He just belonged.

Check the statistical difference between Zaine Cordy and Aaron Naughton both played 18 Games, Naughton took nine more contested
marks, but Zaine finished higher statistically. Aaron Naughton had a great first year, but he was 22nd in the ching and fifth in the
pups unless we want to start a new saying "Fifth in the pups fourth in the B & F" it should be viewed as bias. No other player in the
AFL born in 1999 finished in the top ten of their B & F not even Stephenson and that's 182 players with GWS having a three way
tie for tenth. Naughton was great in a tough position in his first year and had admirers as a consequence, but others were better.

Did anyone hear Zaine on radio one day saying he likes Naughton because he takes the risky option with his kicks and continues to do it even if he makes mistakes?

I was happy to hear that. I’m a big fan of both Cordy and Naughton because they are both very competitive naturally.

Cordy should be in the leadership group next year IMO. Love what he brings to the backline. One of those big moment players like moz.

Only reason English is orange is durabillity not talent, big men growing often have plenty of injuries and he has already had a few.

Brad Lynch, Paddy Lipinski and Fergus Greene are all orange at the moment but I think each of them has traits/mentality that you’d find in a premiership player.

Ed Richards barring injury or something totally out of the ordinary is the biggest green light of all time, Dan you’re certifiably insane imo.

And what has you worried about Williams?

Greene has great forward sense and runs really good patterns and lines

Williams probably harsh I’m just not sure about him
