I agree with Grant Thomas' theory on Captaincy, you should give it to a player that will learn/develop more from having the leadership role (such as Nick Maxwell for the Pies). I mean, you obviously wouldn't give it to a dud player, but someone that is developing well, but that little extra push would get them to the next level.

I think the vice captaincy should go to a player like Simmo...whose game I think would improve with the added leadership responsibilities. Sure Murphy/Gibbs are natural-born leader's, but they are already becoming some of the elite players of the AFL (Murph is ahead of Gibbsy at the moment), and I think Simmo would benefit more as player from the added leadership role than what Murph/Gibbs would in their current stages of development.
