Portland Trailblazers
Like many Richmond supporters, I always have an eye on the Pies, Bombers and Blues and get a special satisfaction from beating those teams and from finishing above them on the ladder. Being high and in a football kind of mood after returning from Melbourne today, I was looking at how we've performed in comparison to those other three teams since the turn of the millennium.

This probably won't cut and paste well but here's how it's gone...

2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000
RICH 4th 4th 4th 4th 2nd 4th 2nd 1st 4th 3rd 3rd 2nd* 3rd
ESS 3rd 3rd* 3rd 3rd* 4th 2nd 3rd 2nd 1st* 2nd* 2nd* 1st* 1st**
CARL 2nd 2nd* 2nd* 2nd* 3rd 3rd 4th 4th 2nd 4th 4th 3rd* 2nd*
COLL 1st* 1st* 1st** 1st* 1st* 1st* 1st* 3rd 3rd 1st* 1st* 4th 4th

* means finals and ** is a flag

Obviously, we've been the worst and Collingwood have been the best. Essendon only marginally ahead of Carlton even though the Blues haven't finished highest of the big four at all. We even managed that feat once in the only season that all four missed the finals.

Anyway, we're in with a shot of finishing 1st and knocking Collingwood from the top position they've held for 7 years. Carlton still no closer to a top finish and Essendon should be destined for a few years in the shit. I guess my point is that we can really re-establish ourselves as a league power over the next few seasons.

Imo Carlton are no longer a power club and realistically we are only now re-establishing our position.
It would seem the Bombers are about to be condemned to cellar dweller status also if the Asada findings go the way most think they should.

Might be a two horse race for the next few years anyway.

Would much rather be measuring ourselves against Hawthorn, West Coast, Geelong and the Pies.
Fingers crossed this is the start of a rebirth of the mighty Tigers.

We are 2nd tied with Essendon in terms of support and strong attendance.

We will overtake them in the next few years and challenge Collingwood in the next decade. We were bigger than Collingwood 30 years ago and we will be again !

Carlton have the most supporters across Australia according to the latest census.
Yeah? it's like the figures that pop up from time to time suggesting Sydney are the biggest club in the land. Not sure it actually translates into bums on seats and eyes on televisions. No doubt the blues are well supported. I think we are all way behind the pies atm

What I actually love about this footy club is that the administration aren't knobs and put GA fans in Level 1 where the atmosphere is fantastic, unlike Hawthorn (they are dismal).

Hopefully this doesn't change and we won't become plasticky like Hawthorn.

Let's just say that if someone had to be kicked out of the big 4, it wouldn't be us. Get rid of one of the smaller clubs like the bummers or blues first :thumbsu:

That's because dumb people across the nation (and there are a lot) thought the Blues were all about B B King or Etta James.

Blues are on the cusp with little more than 50k members and paltry crowds apart from when they play us, hawthorn are quickly overtaking them in the big 4 stakes

We are definatley number 1 for supporters. Not necessarly members but definaltey supporters. We are known as the sleeping giant for a reason. When we are sucsessful again we will easily become the number 1 powerhouse in the AFL. We will take over from Collingwood as the most hated team and I will love every second of it!!! GO TIGERS!!

There is no doubt that the 30 years of failure have impacted on our ability to attract the "soft armchair" type of fan which congregate round both Essendon and to a much lesser extent Carlton. This explains the relatively poor numbers on Twitter and Facebook compared to them.

However we are probably unarguably the top dog in terms of actually getting our fans into the stadium. A few years of success would see us attract large numbers of "soft" glory hunting fans.

Still a heap of supporters out there that aren't members , dropped off over the journey for a reason or another, I'm a traveling salesman, meet them all the time
