Geez looks like big Ivan has gone back a peg or two this year. Probably carrying an injury but sheesh, looks slow, lumbering, can't jump and is certainly not looking like kicking goals when up forward. With vickery struggling and the big O only backup, we seriously lack decent big men. Exposed horribly against essendon.

A real worry IMO.

Big Ivan does look injured, maybe the Big O should get some more game time. Has looked alright so far.

I think it's time to put Vickery in the ruck full time and bring in either Griffiths or Elton to play forward and provide ruck relief..

Vickery has the young legs and offers more around the ground than big Ivan in my opinion. Vickery has quick hands and isn't a bad field kick.. I love Ivan but he looks to be really labouring at the moment..

It would also kill two birds with one stone as it gives either Griff or Elton (probably a fraction early for McBean) game time up forward. They are not being gifted games, it is out of structural necessity....

It was his first game for the club, Melbourne had obviously set themselves for the game. Give him a chance.
He had already played against port and looked really good although port didn't field a particularly strong ruck division. I agree he deserves a chance, just wanted to point out that he was soundly beaten last week.

Naitanui and Cox will absolutely bury us on current form.
They'd bury anyone, what we don't need is to be subbing our back up out at half time like Saturday night  honestly, can't see anyone coming off the injury list for next week so I'd be playing Stephenson as well and dropping McGuane. Maric has been very average this year, dropped more marks than Hurley and looks to be just floundering when the ball is on the ground.

Good call I reckon, jko, Maric will need all the help he can get.

Cox is struggling a bit, IMO, but Naitanui is on the verge of really dominating games.

Definitely Orrenson must play this week! It is an absolute must for you guys. How we are screaming out for big John with the form Jolly is in

drop mcgaune bring in big O. vickery and jack need more space in the forward 50 to work.

use the pine to rotate maric and O, or occasionally drift them back and forward. we simply must bring in another ruck this game

we have one of the better rucks in the comp, yes he may not be in the same form as last year (but he isn't the Lone Ranger) and he competes. would rather him than Gus!

Vickery will never make a #1 ruck and he is a fwd who can rotate through the guts at best. time to look far and wide for some back up for Ivan as Orren is only a short term backup and it takes too long to bring one through the system.

No question that this has been one of the big issues for us this year.

Last year Maric hit the ruck duels like a minotaur and set the tone for our attack on the ball.

This year he looks wounded and slow.

I can't see the point of playing him against a gun ruck duo on the vast Subi expanse.

I hope we rest him and give him the chance to rebuild his mojo.

Bring in the Big O and use Vicks as #2, and ask for a red hot contest.

Expect Cox and Nic Nat to get first use, and rove to their taps.

The extra pressure from O and Vicks should give us a chance to shark quite a few.

And keep mixing it up.

Use a surprise third tall to contest some of the centre bounces early on or even an extra mid (with feigned contest) to give us extra grunt at ground level.

Massive dilemma this week. Nic nat could destroy Maric, O and Vickery single handedly, not to mention Big Cox jumping in to help. So what do we do? Try to match them with two genuine ruckmen or maybe try to exploit their only deficiency...run and spread. So I am nervous about Maric and O in the same team. You can't rotate them off the bench, it just limits the mids ability to run out the game using bench time to refresh. And our biggest problem last week was lack of run to link up with defensive transitions.
I reckon they'll be sorely tempted to do it, but they won't be mobile enough to rest forward either.
Dunno. My preference is to play smaller with extra runners on the big ground over west.

Based on big Ivan's form in the first nine rounds of this season, now I know why he was the bridesmaid to Jacobs and former Crow Tippett a couple of season ago. In Maric's defence he's probably not 100% fit at the moment!
We most certainly need to shop around for an established ruckman in the off season then dump one of Stepehenson or Derickx.

nicely thought out expect but don't concede that cox and nic nat will gather the majority of taps and rove accoedingly imo a good tactic will be early with both opp rucks having a bad habit of taking the ball strait out of the ruck is to tackle and bury them gives us a free kick and slows them down just my 2 cents

Yep,It's a tough call,I'd prefer we bring in the big O but we'd have to sacrafice run.Next best thing i guess is just go one on one at the centre bounces and stoppages and hope Ivan and V can at least keep close to them around the ground that they become less damaging.
