I keep hearing everyone talking about our so called Premiership window being 2011-2013. I cringe every time I read this. We were 1 and a half games out of the top 4 this year and Geelong beat us by 30 points in round 1 but ravaged us in round 2.

I think people need to realize that the only way for us to beat the Cats are too run them off their feet with a skillful young side. Yes we can take them on with bigger bodied players in 3-5 years time but why wait.

We ran them really hard in round 2 and with a little bit more poise with the ball and targets sticking would of went in at half time in front. I personally can't wait 3-5 years for basic skills to improve under pressure against better sides. Wallce and his team should nail this over this off season.

Yes the Cats are good , yes the Hawkes have Buddy but the comp is wide open guys and the game is changing , getting faster and we can be one of the leaders of the pack.

I think its generally taken from Terrys talk on when our team will be at its best in terms of age and games experience, he never said we didnt have a hope until this period he just said that our team will begin to hit its peak in this period with lots of players 24 plus with 100 plus games experience.

Age of key players in 2011 (and estimated expirence):
Midfield:
Deledio: 23/24 (120 games)
Foley: 25 (110 games)
Cotchin: 20/21 (50 games)
Edwards: 22 (65 games)
Conners: 22 (>50 games)

Backs:
Thurstfield 24/25 (80 games)
Moore: 26/27 (90 games)
McGuane: 23/24 (65 games)
Rance: 21 (<35 games)
Raines: 24/25 (80 games)

Fowards:
Riewoldt: 22 (60 games)
Hughes: 24 (>50 games)
Morton: 23/24 (65 games)
White: 23/24 (75 games)
Collard: 22 (>30 games) (hopefully he's still around)

Rucks:
....shit all (maybe patto and hopefully vickery and putt)

These will be the blokes who should be able to bring this footy club soe success. Add to these guys the expirenced blokes in
Newman: 28/29 (170 games), Tuck 29 (130 games), and maybe Simmonds 32 (220 games) or Cogs (29, 120 games) and it looks pretty good. Then theres also the blokes with clouds over them in Meyer, Patto, Jackson and Polo + the super young guys in Putt and Gourdis

Veterans in Bowden, Brown, Richo will all be over 32 years of age and I can't see them playing playing more then 2 more years

Hence, TT, this is why we won't be much of a premiership chance before 2011 unless it's on the back of Richo, Simmo, Bowden and Brownys backs

Yep valid point. Just have to look to the baby bombers for inspiration. a james hird would be nice but it's possible. maybe.

Premiership windows are not hard and fast rule anyway. But you would be hoping that we would be a top team at that time. You just have to look at the Cats. 10th 3 years ago when we were 9th (again) and then a dip followed by... It's maturity. You would hope when our list has matured it will be a hard team to beat.

In 2011 - Our good youngsters should have the experience and bodies to be solid week in week out and by then we shouldn't (hopefully) have too many holes in our list.

Overrating the list has to be a thing of the past if the club is going to win a premiership in the future. The list is too young and too old (not enough in the 23-27 age bracket), lacks balance, depth, skill, size and is missing ruckmen, tall forwards and genuine inside midfielders with good skills. 4-6 years minimum.

Beaver this was already talked about in another thread. A large number of our players will be in that age bracket in 1-2 years. You seem to base it on when the average age of our list is exactly 25.0. That age bracket isn't as strict as you make it out to be.

I see what you're getting at, but I would say the fact that so many of our young players have been given so many games at such a young age means they will peak a little earlier.
