Fraser before Leigh Brown as second ruck or resting forward? No way.

I'll digress. Fraser of 2010 behind Brown of 2010 for sure, but at his best Fraser was far superior to Brown in both ruck and forwardline play. 3 goals in the 2002 Grand Final and a best on for Collingwood the year after suggests he lifts for big games, and his ruckwork in early 2005/2006/2007 was pretty good before he got cruelled by injuries and couldn't get back out on the park. Always played well against Cox, too.

You're insinuating that Leon "Mr September" Davis is better than Sidebottom.

Not insinuating it, I'm stating it outright. You can't honestly believe that Sidebottom is a better player currently than Leon Davis was? I understand his GF record sours his legacy a bit, but come on... Seriously? Dual AA at two ends of the ground, state representative, 270 goals to his name, couple of top 5 best and fairest results.

You're referring to this thread as a joke because people have selected Sidebottom in their side?
But you have no problem that sides already contain Maxwell and Fraser?

Maxwell, whilst being a great leader for the current side shouldn't be in this team as you have the great one in Nathan Buckley who fills that role whilst providing elite skill. Maxwell also wouldn't get a defenders role when you have the likes of Presti, Reid, Clement, Wakes, Shaw, and O'Brien who would take a defenders position/interchange before Maxy.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Fraser and Maxwell are far more worthy than Sidebottom, that isn't really a contentious thing to say is it? Sidebottom will make such a team by the time he is the same age as those blokes, but just for the moment, I don't think he comes close our team of the decade. There was good portions of 2011 where he was struggling to just make that team really. He was pretty underwhelming last year. His 2010 final's series was exceptional though, no doubting that.

Also I think people forget how good Fraser was back during the time of our earlier flag tilts. I'm not saying he should or shouldn't make people's teams, but he definitely earnt the right to be in contention.


Maybe this whole thing is so ridiculous to me because I'd actually have Dayne Beams in a team like this before I even came to Steele Sidebottom. Steele's a tad bit over-hyped around here for mine. He hasn't put the runs on the board in finals but I still actually think Beams is a better player.

Anyway a few people have mentioned Sidebottom, so maybe it isn't as ludicrous as I think it is.

I'm picking the side for a big game. Which isn't unreasonable seeing as four of the sides in the last ten years played off in the decider. Davis is not a big game player.

I'll be honest though, I struggled selecting a twenty-second. I have never rated Davis at any stage of his career, Medhurst is in the Sidebottom category of being flash in the pan (although he doesn't have the ability to change that), Maxwell has been a sensational leader but at best a good player, Nate Brown has shown he can mix it with the best in the competition (2008 v Pavlich, Brown, 2010 v Riewoldt x2) but hasn't played well enough consistently enough, Wakelin has always been a slightly worse option at Full Back then Presti and doesn't deserve to slot in elsewhere, Scotland is very overrated on these boards. Lonie I considered though I'd cop a lot of flack because on balance he'd be exactly what we'd need in a sub; someone that can run the lines, carry and penetrate.

Really you're just lucky I didn't select Rusling or Macaffer. Hell, when this was done on the CFC website pre-2010 John Anthony was the twenty-second named IIRC.

I guess it depends on how you view it. To me Wakelin was solid but in and out of the team a bit. He was good at getting the job done most of the time but he was never one of the great defenders of the comp when he played. Reid on the other hand has has 2 really good years in a row and is already AA. His last two years I'd say are better than what Wakelin produced.

After Clement retired Wakelin became our number 1 defender. The bloke was outstanding. I don't think he was in and out of the team at all. Reid hasn't played a good finals match to date ( injuries of course)

He almost retired because he wasn't seen as important to the team. A few injuries and guys like Clement retiring and he found his way back in and then performed well and saw out his career on a high. He was a good player no doubt, but IMO he was what's called a good ordinary player.

Anyway this thread is all about opinion, nobody is right or wrong with who they select. If people think other players should be in then they should list this own team of the last 10 years!
