Outsider View on WCE drafting 2014

Maybe it is just me... but **** me i hate people saying we needed to draft in leg speed.

It is the new soy latte of football. The 'In" thing

I'd take Sam Mitchell over Isaac Smith. Kieren Jack over Leroy Jetta and Travis Boak over Polec.

But your comparing inside players to outside players ?
Teams need both, Isaac Smith is one of the Hawks most important players because of his outside speed,
and run and carry. He is one of the best in the league.
Hawks have very good slow inside players with a good mix of big mids and small inside mids.
Then on the outside they have:
Hill
Smith
Pops
Rioli

Because of that balance is why they are best team in the league.

I agree - leg speed is obviously just one part of what makes up a footballer - but talk about cherry picking your examples lol I'd take Patrick Dangerfield over Brock McLean and Cyril Rioli over Adam Carter

My point being - rather than say we stuffed up our draft because we didn't bring in leg speed is just ridiculous.

If our recruiters think the blokes we have picked are the best at being able to win the ball and get it to advantage - then that is the bloke I want.

If they have height, speed - well great. But I'd hate to think we are valuing that over the ability to cleanly win the ball and get it to advantage.

Whilst I agree - we have guys who can run on the outside. What we don't have many of is blokes who can win the ball in tight and make good decisions and get it to advantage. What made Judd so great was not simply that he could run fast, but that he could twinkle toe out of congestion, not that he could stream up a wing.

Kerr's genius was the ability amongst a pack of 8 to get it Mick Braun 15m in the clear.

The outside pace and dash really is the cream on the cake. However we have to have the creative ball winners first. Until we have a decent battery of those, we aren't going deep into December.

I am quietly confident about Yeo, Shuey will improve even more with someone else sharing the tag. We need 2 more.

The other posters have already said it, you where having a go at them because you didn't like there opinion,
you where out of line.
Everyone else understood what this thread is about.
Others disagreed with there opinions, but no one else had a go at them.

II think that you and many others are confusing "honesty and non biased opinions" with a put down disguised as "honest and unbiased". If these guys were half as good as they portend to be they would be recruiting for a club, not on these forums.

I put my trust on our recruiters, knowing that only time will allow us to judge their selections fully.

Mate they were invited to state their opinion and that is what they did. They should not be criticised for doing what they were asked to do.
