I was at the game on Wednesday (I travel 5 hours, about 8 times a year to watch footy) and was curious as to why Paddy was moved from defence when he was holding the CHB position and that zone of the ground looked to be in our control early in the game. I am sure there is a 'big picture theory' there somewhere.

Anyways on a much more positive note I would like to say how impressed I was at 2 small things I saw during the game. Both Bolton and Johns had scoring opportunites from set kicks, both players took their time settled, and visualised their kicks for goal before taking them. They both moved their hands (and ball) through the kick as if they were kicking while they were lining up for goal. Both kicks sailed through easily. and funnily enough Rocca just stepped back and sprayed them everywhere worse than a male 1970's pr0n star.

Bomber fans.... please don't trash the players. With all the training, expert coaching and natural talent ALL 22 players that took part on Wednesday deserve their spots over people who post in here. Otherwise we would have seen YOU running around in a red and black jumper.

Both teams looked flat (with the 4 day break) and it would have been a much faster free flowing game with a normal 6-7 day break between games.

Looking forward to a much improved and hungry Bombers team to take on the Hawks following the extended break.

Cheers

Yeh it was a shame that he had to move into the ruck which pushed Lucas back. We desperately needed Hille out there to cover this. I admit that I wrote Paddy Rider off last year when seeing him play in the ruck, but this year now that he's down back I cant stop talking about him.. Going to be handy for the Dons in the coming years.

Good Post Chop :thumbsu:

I guess Paddy was moved because Laycock was buggered and wasn't doing much in the ruck along with the others..

I guess there's a few angry supporters here who are having a crack at some of our players ( like me and Dyson ) but it's so hard not to especially after losses to arch enemies Carlton and Collingwood.

Hille not there .Laycock definately not match fit ,,Bradley cant ruck so Ryder went there .To be a force in the finals some players have to have a go in the ruck in early games or you dont know where you are .
Bradley and Dyson are not backmen, they panick .
I would not have put him there .
Let Laycock and Bradley do SOMETHING in the ruck.Let the Bombers quick men SHARK the ball off the opposition ruckmen.
Watson is a player that seems to need to be in the play constantly or he goes cold like Anzac day ,, he was not alone on that day though .
Bombers fwds ,,did they have lead weights in their boots ?Some of them didnt create space etc , a bit lazy i thought .Dont blame the match they played 4 days earlier ,,its not hard to MOVE .
Play the umps whistle and DONT umpire the game while on the field .
JJ , Dempsey , Hille , Lovett-Murray,Jetta ,Welsh and Winderlich should be back soon which will strengthen us .

yes it was a shame.............. i think we really do need another good ruckman.... cause if hille or laycock are out we have nothing

McKinnon will be elevated at years end seems a likely type and at 206cm isnt a midget either..We really have to persist with Kep in the ruck i reckon..Laycock isnt fit enough yet to play even 75% match time so its time Kep stepped up when we need him. Im confident in time as he and his body matures he could be quite handy there, so long as he is given licence to attack..he doesnt have a defensive bone in his body..

As mentioned on other threads Ryder had 50% of his hit outs go to advantage easily better than all other ruckmen out there. If he isn't needed down back, I would prefer to see Ryder as our 2nd ruckman for the next few games rather than an unfit Laycock. Ryder could run with Simon Taylor next week, while NLM could handle Boyle/Dixon.

He has been out for 4 weeks now. He might be ready, but Essendon will take no chances. He will come through the VFL like JJ is currently doing. Anyway, with no Williams or Croad, there is no real need to play him, just give him a couple of weeks in the VFL.

i think they shouldnt play him in the vfl... people seem to have forgotten how good of a player he is this year. i think we need him playing. he is a great rebounding defender, he has missed like 4 weeks that isnt a heap players come straight back from injury after 3 months and return to the afl not vfl... not everyone has to go through the vfl... JJ probably does as was shown by his lack of form early last year but i dont think NLM will need to.

NLM had a dismal first game. I seem to recall people calling for his head before they realised he was injured anyway. I agree he is a good player, but McPhee has stepped up this year, and Fletcher is at CHB, so NLM isnt important as he was last year. We do not need to rush him. Give him 2 weeks in the VFL, he will only miss one game where we dont really need him anyway!

one game though is it really a indication of form? i don tthink you can call him out of form after one game... i agree with the mcphee and fletcher thing, we dont really need him as a rebound defender but his ability to shut down a good forward is also better then most of our team. and personally iwould like to see ryder being given more time in the ruck... if NLM is back and playing good footy ryder can do that. then we may not need laycock in the side.

I think you have just proved my point. One game ISNT a good indication of form, that is why he should play more than 1 VFL game before he is selected. Dont forget we have Welsh hopefully coming back. So a defence consisting of Fletcher, Mal, McPhee, Welsh and Ryder isnt too bad, is it?

I actually dont mind the idea of Paddy in the ruck. The guy has a great leap and i believe he is only learning his trade down back until he becomes our #2 ruckman.

However in saying that, i would rather himat CHB instead of Kepler (if he is in the team), that bloke needs to stay as far away from the oppositions goal as possible
