Palmer Interview

I think this is the key to the deterioration in their relationship. If the rumours are true there were was some harsh words spoken after Barlow broke his leg. Either way it was a burden he had to carry for some time and he strikes me as a confidence player who seemed to be overthinking things when he got the ball. It was a shame because I think that he was playing his best game that day following his knee.

Even if he had already signed with GWS in the off season I think he was handled in a strange fashion this year and was not given a fair go, especially with the injury run we had.

Either way it sounds like he doesn't bear a grudge and is on better money than he would get with us for the next four seasons, so good luck to him and I hope he does well at GWS.

Funny thing Was Palmer was one of the few guys that wanted to have his Whole AFL career at Freo he would of been a 200 game player for us as well.

He was good until that injury in 2009. I was glad Harvey is gone now since he put players out of position when the game needed to be won. Palmer was one of those guys.

Yeah I agree you wonder how Palmer would of been under Lyon had he stayed in WA.

Funny thing is that I can see him back with us in 4 years time. Still after he does the 4 years in GWS, He should have enough money in the bank for a good retirement.

sheeds on channel west coast last night was singing the praises of coniglio, saying that he was a young mark mercuri... when asked about palmer he said "he is a good player, but he really needs to work on his skills as its holding him back" and that was it.... im not sure sheeds is that enamoured with rhys at this stage

If we are still squirrelling around for midfielders with ordinary disposal in 4 years time then we will have gone absolutely nowhere at all with our rebuild. We have developing players on our list who should be in their prime then, plus 4 drafts, plus free-agency, plus some attrition from GC and GWS lists.

I think Palmer is gone for good.

I'll be surprised if he's at an AFL club in 2016.

You've got me at a disadvantage there.

I only saw one , Rhys Palmer.

Fred, it is normal for players that have not filled there aerobic output to complete training on the day of the game if they did not get a high enough workout.

They attempt to get the players to peak week in week out on game days and you'd find other players where probably doing workouts downstairs, the only thing odd is that Rhys was doing them publically.

Harves became aware of Palmers extra curriculur activities and was bot pleased told Palmer as much and young Rhgs cracked the shits.

I've got no problems with how Harves handled the situation.

Act like a ******** and set a poor example as a young leader of the club and find yourself on the outer.

Who would you rather have this years recruits emulating, Fyfe or Palmer?

That really doesn't satisfy me. He was still being selected, but being played out of position, and the position he was "out of" we were filling with Pavlich. I have problems with how that panned out. If he needs discipline, you drop him back to the wafl as punishment, not punish the team by using him poorly.

yep agree with this. palmer would have been so much more effective had he played in the middle this year. alas it wasnt to be.... i just cant help but wonder wherther there was sour grapes on our coaching staffs behalf, knowing that rhys was going to GWS..... certainly doesnt excuse punishing the team by playing him out of position though

I think it's time to let go. Had we not received good compensation from GWS I would be quite angry at how the situation was handled but it worked out best for us in the end.

i agree it is time to move on, although there is no way to know if it has worked out in our favour or not

Seconded. It's very early on I know, but - at this stage it looks as if the club is better off with Crozier :)

Can't wait to see him and Fyfe on opposite wings taking screamers/huge pack marks every other week.
