What does everyone think of Parkway Drive? I saw them last night at Festival Hall and they were better than i expected.

Their main support act Miss May I weren't as good as i tought though. They were a bit disappointing.

Used to be a moderate fan.

Always been a stigma associated with them given they're a bit run of the mill and haven't advanced much since their first couple of albums.

Don't Close Your Eyes-era Parkway Drive is pretty good. Killing With a Smile is also quite good. They've got progressively worse/mainstream since then. Still better than most of the other metalcore bands going around (not that that's hard). Good live band, haven't seen them in about 5-6 years though.

I like killing with a smile quite alot, compared with my usual views on metalcore. Since then they've been alot more killswitch engageish, pretty boring.

Saw a few songs live after NOFX at No Sleep Till, was pretty impressive I thought. Would like to see them again, although their setlist is pretty heavy on the last two albums these days

....and there's me thinking the stigma was associated with them being a) a metalcore band and b) a shit metalcore band

i actually don't mind breakdowns, as long as they are heavy (Despised Icon) or downright filthy and evil (Proclamation)

Bands like Parkway Drive are for people who are intimidated by death metal. They are The Wiggles for faux metalheads

I'll happily take Converge over most death metal bands matey.

Not comparing Parkway Drive to them obviously.

lol @ intimidated by death metal. I prefer industrial metal. Guess that makes me nu-metal or metalcore according to you or whatever fuktup labels you wanna use. And there is a lot of shit death metal out there, just like any genre. Ooh I listen to real metal cos it's scarier and heavier than the music you listen to.

I agree with everything this poster said.

So do you like Parkway Drive and if so why then?

Great effort of avoiding the point of the thread
No I don't like them. I already said I prefer industrial metal. I just think it's funny that some people appoint themselves the judges of all things real metal and bag on people who have different tastes.

See, i didn't bag or abuse anyone. The only person who did that is you.

Of course i judge music and peoples musical tastes. I am a musical elitist. Go listen to some Rammstein and deal with it.

I dont know about you but i get the feeling if you brought up DsO, Blut Aus Nord, Runemagick and Dead Congregation in a conversation with Debussey, Schumann, Chopin and Schubert they would scoff at you :D.

Except i listen to as much classical and jazz as i do black metal :/

..and Chopin? absolute rubbish...i wouldn't listen to that crap if you paid me

You do realise some industrial is just as heavy as death or black or whatever, don't you? It's just a different style. I know you like Meshuggah, and to me they have industrial elements to them. But no, you're the elitist know-all who listens to that music that scares grannies, so I shouldn't argue with you. Judge away.

Black metal isn't particularly heavy. Disagree on Meshuggah. Calling me an elitist know-all is a compliment. The OP was asking for opinions on something, should only positive opinions be allowed?

It does indeed scare grannies. You haven't seen a true look of disgust until you've pulled up at the lights pumping Dead Congregation through a $6,000 system and the old couple next to you have the windows down. To be fair, Parkway Drive would probably have the same effect

That you like them or that they can be considered industrial?

http://www.miketuritzin.com/songwriting/2009/05/meshuggah/

I guess opinions are like assholes etc.

But on Parkway Drive, I agree. Average at best.

I'm out. I'm even annoying myself! ;)

I love Meshuggah, probably in the top 5 innovative and best metal bands of all time. They also happen to have recorded what i think is the heaviest piece of metal ever - the final minute or so of Dehumanization

On topic, Parkway are pretty good, used to be a lot more into them than now. They were my first concert and the band that acted as a gateway into hardcore for me, so I'll always have a soft spot for them.

Atlas - amazing album!!
Been a fan for a long time!!

Better than Deep Blue but not much. I still liked Horizons but I wouldn't put in any effort to go see them now like I did with DCYE/KWAS.

Favourite songs - idols and anchors, carrion, sleepwalker, boneyards, smoke em if you got em.. and wild eyes is my pick as the best one from their new album
