This is an astonishing revelation. It must surely now convince even those who clung to the belief that the Liberal Party were good economic managers that they are in fact, completely and utterly incompetent and should never be allowed on the treasure benches again. $AUS 38,000,000,000 !

That equates to $1500 for every man woman and child in Australia.

Somehow Murdoch and the Liberals have convinced a large portion of Australians that they are good economic managers simply by virtue of giving tax breaks to the upper class and mining companies during the booms, and introducing tax policies that were regressive during a time when Australia was ripe for strong growth and actually needed redistribution income and wealth the other way to further stimulate the economy.

The modus operandi of so call Liberal Parties when it comes to taxation and public spending was no more starkly emphasised here in South Australia, when a 13 year old lad committed suicide as a direct result of the Thatcherite Liberal Government withdrawing funding from the Department for Child Protection and The Department of Human Services. The fellow that this child was placed with in foster care, had a fantastic relationship with the young lad and even sold his home to look after the young fellow but then funding was withdrawn even further and they took the child out of his care - the child committed suicide!

The LNP, since the election of Abbott et al, have cut over $1 Billion from the Federal Department of Social Services but it seems that's OK because it handed a $38 Billion present to the corporates and Church organisations who will look after the ever growing social problems caused by poverty through the trickle down effect and full immersion in the Holy Spirit.

The thing is, they were actually good at it once....a while ago....

Now they are just as useless and incompetent as everyone else.

It is a horrible waste. Is anyone planning to claw it back?

I'm not going to pretend I would be able to build a more robust system to inject public money into businesses planning to let most of their staff go and in need of some security in the face of absolute unknown hard times ahead on short notice though.

A lot of companies went into plans to lose as little money as possible, expecting the whole economy to come to a halt and their pessimism turned out to be unwarranted.

The ALP should take clawing the money back from people with fines imposed to the election. They can even promise to return the money to the people via a stimulus payment of around $1000 per person (minus admin, recovery and shrinkage costs)

They were never any good at it. Howard shifted wealth upwards and bastardised the great Labor reforms of Hawke and Keating and squandered what should have been a period of consolidation and progress for Australia based on the great ALP reforms.

Abbott/Hockey were a disgracefully inept. Turnbull didn't give a rat's arse about the economy and focussed solely on remaining Prime Minister and Morrison/Frydenberg are just massively embarrassing and completely clueless.

Before this lot of LNP morons, we were lumbered with Fraser/Howard who had absolutely no idea of how to deal with the new world order created by OPEC flexing it's muscle and gave us double digit inflation, double digit interest rates that were much higher than the high interest rates in other parts of the world, (as opposed to the short period of high interest rates under Hawke/Keating which were much lower than the rest of the world), and double digit unemployment.

Before Fraser and Howard, we had Menzies/Holt/Gorton/McMahon who sat on their hands for a quarter of century whilst Australia lived off the far reaching economic settings put in place by Curtain and Chifley.

The, "Liberals are good economic managers" bull, is a media construct by the anti-labour vested interests who convince enough people that they are getting the benefits of Liberal economic management when in fact, they have been living well due to Labor reforms and all the while, the Liberals are eroding away these reforms either due to gross incompetence or insidiously redistributing wealth upwards.
