Yeah it seems the above would be possible!! A lot of people will select and then pick either Gibbs or Deledio and put them Vice Captain for sure in Round 1 and then change or leave their Captain options according to the score by the VC.

The only way around this would be for VS to make a decision that NO Carlton or Richmond players can be Captain, VC or Emergency for Round 1. This would solve both the emergency and Vice Captain issues discussed above i think.

Either that or just leave it alone and see who can exploit the loopholes best!!;)

Or make it so that you can't set a captain/vice captain during partial lockout. that has to be done before the first lockout. Either way, it needs to be clear before lockout what the rules are.

Yeah, but say I set my vice to Gibbs.

I then set my captain to, say, Riewoldt.

Now lets say I have the following forward line

Riewoldt (c), Franklin

first, trade Roo to Jimmy Rookie and Frankin to Billy Rookie.

Jimmy Rookie A (c), Billy Rookie

Then trade Jimmy rookie to Franklin and Billy Rookie to Roo.

Franklin (c), Roo.

This can also be done in the mids if you plan on holding someone that is going to miss round 1 (See: palmer 08, Beams 09.)
 
I hope the good people at VS take note of this thread - people are already trying to figure out ways to exploit the rule changes :D. I agree with chad regarding the captaincy exploits; I hope they lock those in when the first match starts, otherwise we can basically pick two players and take the best in Round 1.

If the captaincy is locked then you won't be able to trade your captain.

Depends on how the "lock" functionality is implemented.
If you haven't initially set a captain (only a vice captain), perhaps you could set a captain mid-round.

If VS go with the staggered lockout then there's sure to be some exploits that will be taken advantage of through a bit of planning and/or plain old chutzpah.

Crikey, VS can't even manage to determine what players are on the field in a given game.

The point about emergencies is a good one... I suppose unless a Rich/Carl player is selected as an emergency or captain from first lockout you cant go back and change it.

Yeah, it was my fault... but I'd done the same thing in the past and had no problem getting onto the site.
I picked a quick 30 when DT first opened and didn't touch it again until the morning of the first lockout.
I'm involved in a bunch of trade games and was concentrating on them, thinking I'd have all day to finalise my DT. I'll never make that mistake again. Safety first! :)

+1. This is where I was coming from too when I raised the initial scenario. Obviously at this stage we don't know what the process/rules will be with regards to what you can/can't do, hopefully VS have thought about all these things already and incorporated them into the game.

Don't see what the issue is, at the end of the day the same rules will apply to everyone. Yes, it favours captain/emergency selections from Carlton/Richmond but would you change your selection simply for that?

This is a massive issue and something I did not think about.

Just say I am in the same league as Mr Simmonds/Ausyid/Baxters/{insert very good DT player} and I get to view their whole team after first lockout via the live scoring system. I can then make the appropriate trades to alter my team to a structure that I may have missed.
 
I wouldn't have thought so. You can't see other teams trades until after the round unless of course you are head to head. Given there are no head to head's in round one you won't see their teams.

lol people still damnd bout anthony last year aha. If anything its makin it less interesting, the more zeroes the more competetive the games is. Plus it fills up the vent thread nicely aha

Well look what happens when you take some time off work and go away for a few weeks, you come back to a gossip and great concepts.

This will hopefully reduce the workload on the servers prior to lockout, a welcome change for the coming DT season.

I am sure people are already looking for sneaky loopholes to take advantage of this change.
