Pass Mark

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We have the easiest draw of all time.

A pass mark is making the finals, barring horrendous injuries.

Based on last year's form, yes, but anything can happen in the new year.

For instance, prior to last season, most people had Essendon making the finals or only just missing them, West Coast moving up the ladder and Fremantle languishing towards the bottom.

In actuality, though, those predictions were totally incorrect.

With this in mind, I wouldn't be so quick to suggest that we have the easiest draw of all time.

Further to cannons' point, I think most would agree that we over-performed in 2010. Also, our "draw" for 2011 is only marginally easier than it was this year.

So people making black and white calls for "finals or fail" (without providing any valid reasoning) should think about why they actually hold the opinion that, as a bare minimum, we should be making finals. Because that's what a pass mark is, it is the bare minimum acceptable result.

Pass for me would be Jurrah, Watts, Petterd, Wona, Bennel and Greeny playing in the fwd line for 18-22 games.

big ask, but if that can happen I believe we will win a lot of games with that set up.

What a load a sh#te. We finished 12th in a 16 team competition FFS, how is that over-performing?

The only people that would agree with you are those who accept failure. Unfortunately a majority of the regular posters here are happy with failure.

We improved our ladder position by 4 spots in a single year, coming off back-to-back wooden spoons, with a very young list, basically zero forward line structure for the first 10-12 games, and basically one ruckman doing 90% of the ruck work. We also kept the eventual premiers to within one point over two games, got two interstate wins, almost beat WBD who have been top four the last few years, and pumped a very well drilled, harder, bigger bodied and more experienced team (Sydney) to give them their biggest losing margin in almost a decade!

We did over perform.

Like I said, if you have an opinion that is fine, but if you are going to be petulant and abusive in your posts, at least give us your reasoning so you don't sound like such an arrogant flog.

If you want facts, well here we go.

- Collingwood basically had 1 ruckman doing 90% of the ruckwork.
- We lost to the bottom side at home.
- When we did have a well structured, well performing forwardline with Green, Jurrah & Dunn, we still managed to lose games against teams that we were capable of, and in a position to beat. (Hawthorn, Port and North).

The fact that we were able to match it with Collingwood and The Dogs, would suggest we have talent.

It about time that winning games became everything to this club, not a nicety.

Mate, prior to last season, nearly every pundit had us finishing 15th or 16th, so 12th was certainly a better result than most expected.

I agree that we had talent last year, but a lot of it was inexperienced talent still coming to terms with AFL football. As such, I think it is fair to suggest that we performed above expectations in relation to the W/L column.

I want Watts in the Best 22 because he belongs there. Not because he was a number 1 pick.

I wouldnt have chosen the term 'overperformed', but I know what stretch means. I was very happy with the improvement showed last year - we won more games than I expected and I suggest 2 or 3 more could easily have gone our way.

It about time that winning games became everything to this club, not a nicety.

Im pretty sure everything we are doing is with the aim of getting to the top. And Im pretty sure every Dees supporter wants us to win. But being short sighted wont help - being smart will.

100% agree. I think we done the bare minimum this year, if we were in the bottom 4 for the 4th year in a row that would have been a failure.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm torn between replying because these posts are so on the nose, or just ignoring this tripe in the hope that the thread will roll over and die.

Fair enough, the original post was just asking for these neanderthals to crawl out from under their rocks, but still, let's just make a little bit of an effort shall we.

A pass mark would be 8 wins. As long as we dont go backwards I would give us a pass.

As for giving the players a pass mark in relation to games played and goals scored, thats stupid.

So if Watts breaks an arm and only plays 13 games he fails?
Or if Watts averages 20 possessions and has 30 goal assists a game but only kicks 12 goals he fails?

a pass mark is 11 wins, no less

Pass mark is finals for me.

I think we have the side to make the 8 and ill be very dissapointed if
we dont make the 8.

Im very confident we will be playing finals, I think we are a fair bit more
developed than most think - pushing the premiers twice last year shown
that we are capable, but we need to bury the weaker sides and I think
in 2011 we will start to do that.
