Sure it was a good spirited performance in the second half but WE MUST BACK THAT UP ON MOST WEEKS NOT JUST ONCE IN A MONTH!.

However I'll be at training for the third week in a row with many of my MOB mates chanting and cheering as the players and coach run onto the oval. The more positive the atmosphere for them at an open training session the better. They need to keep their heads up and not feel 'morale-battered' if there is any such word.

But I am sick of seeing crap season after crap season and being laughed at by passers by. Its time that the team is full of players that are very disciplined and hungry to win the footy at all times, somethingh that they have been rerely/occasionally doing over the last one and a half seasons. Regardless of how much 'better' we are off/on field than 2001 the fact remains that Freo are still the laughing stock of the competition and that will not go away until we experience finals success.

We were extremely unlucky not to win this game. Had we pulled this off, many of would have been back on the CC bandwagon as the best thing since slice bread.

Two games out of the 8 with 8 games to go and I think a few people are going to regret, some of thier negative views. Rolling the Bulldogs this week puts us one game out of the 8.

Mate you have a right to an opinion and because i do too this is what i am telling you. the stuff you have been typing on this message board tells me one of two things you are either a supporter from another club that likes to take the ******** out of us OR you just talk sh*t . so i think i will just do my best to ignore your crappy posts because they border on pathetic nothing you say has any substance at all, perhaps other people can say the same thing about me but i think i have put up some reasonable things in the past.

Oh and one more thing you say you have followed the dockers from day one? how old were you 3? so you have sound knowledge of the dockers history?

If anyone of us sat down and had a few beers with CC and got the real side of his story he would probably say the 'journey' is not what he imagined. He'd go on to say he is gaining in confidence each game.

From where I sit I'd say he has made a few telling coaching moves this year. Imo he is still learning the craft. Each week he is adding new variables finding different combinations looking at what works as well as what doesnt work.

The 'what doesnt work' is probably the most important aspect because when things dont work you have to be able to disregard them and get straight to the options of the things that do work. He, the assistant coaches and the team should be getting close to being able to go directly to decisions that will have instant positive affect. I believe it will become apparent in the remaining matches.

When you look at what has cost games over the last 12 months it hasnt been his game plan. Mostly it is clangers. Good footy players doing dumb things. Some games he has been outcoached or just had his own clangers.

He should now have a reasonable amount of experience to call upon. If he can start anticipating and nailing good coaching moves by instinct and if the team stopped the clangers we will be a real force.

I'd like to know what sought of a chess player he is. Anybody who has played a lot of chess will understand what I've been trying to say. Add a clock it becomes a different game. You learn what not to do, when you learn that you start winning.

I find myself increasingly agreeing with this viewpoint. Maybe good coaches aren't always born but are mostly developed.

A lot of our players are lacking adequate discipline and hard work ethic in a lot of games in the last year and a half. thats why IMO we are underachieving and struggling. The players are playing a lazy, uncontested brand of football, and that probably sounds like stating the bleeding obvious. The players need to play more like a team rather then individuals also.

Slacker - do not agree with you mate. Just look at Whoosha and ask yourself which coach do you prefer. Apart from having a good football brain, coaches have to lead from the front and players and the club know it. Mathews, Pagan and Sheedy have this.

CC IMO is just bungling along and indecisive. One of many examples Woods was supposed to be groomed for a foward role this year and he plays everywhere except forward.

One thing I often wonder - is there interference from the Board Members, maybe from Hart or Schwab during team selection time? If the coach is not really strong or carries total respect, this is a common cause of problems within a club.

Or using the 'neccesity is the mother of invention' line CC hit a winner by putting elvis back and polly forward. changed the team dynamic and in the process created balance.

What I was getting at earlier. The team now has options. He can close down a score line by lining up elvis and polly down back and swing either one into the forward knowing the opposition has to cover it.

I agree with Slacker about dugrene - it was a good post. Don't agree with it though. The concerning thing (and i'm not sure it's something that you can get better at) is that CC justdoesn't seem to be able to think quickly. Things happen and you need to react to it fast, not make the change 2 quarters later when the game is done and dusted. 2 blatant examples:

Brown in the middle for Brisbane. He moved into the centre early in the game and CC did nothing. After he completely wiped the floor with us, he moved Pavlich into the middle halfway through the last quarter as a counter. Bit f**king late then.

And McPharlin last week. It was as clear as day that we were struggling badly down back and McPharlin was barely seeing it as the ball was just not getting down there, and when it was it took an eternity. Midway through the 3rd the move was made. Funny how we started playing decent footy then.

Further, our gameplan is simply too soft and based around loose footy. Our list is not equipped to play this with great effect, it's too slow.

And my last bitch: CC does not seem to be a motivator. When confidence is low, we suck donkey balls. It's the coach's job to ensure confidence remains high, and he doesn't seem to be able to do that job, we rely on individual pieces of brilliance to drag us out of it (eg. Pav).

At the moment, he's a top bloke, but a sh*t coach. I hope you're right that he's getting better, but he's got a hell of a lot of improving to do.

He has shown he can build a team and get it to play good footy. This year, so far.

It will be looked back on as the year the toast had everthing in their favour and took advantage of it.
I dont need to run through the breaks because we all know what they are.

Now go back to 1991. Better team imo. The team should have creamed that Gf but once the pressure came on the coach cracked. He had McKenna in the forward line, I think Sumich down back for a while in fact half the team played out of position at one or another I remember shaking my thinking wtf is going on here.

Woosha was the same a few ago when the pies stitched em up. Blokes playing out of position. So he might look ok this year while everthing is running smoothley but the pointy end is still a while off yet. Thats when it counts. Save your credits until then I'd say.

I have to agree with you. He does seem and probably is a slow learner. But I think he is learning. 2003 he had the luck. 2004 he coached badly a couple of times and cost us spot in the eight. 2005 he has made some mistakes and had bad luck. My tip is the pendalum will swing back. When it does no one will know our team better than him. The lesson learnt will be invaluable.

Being a Bit hard mate - I just don't share your opinion and still think that we can make the 8. I am not coming down to your level and although you are extremely mis-guided, you are entitled to your negative opinion. I would hate to have you as a team mate and be in the same situation with 8 games to go.

I have yet to read anything of substance from you apart from "slagging" the club and CC.

There are 8 games to go and we are only two games out of the 8 and all we need is a win against the doggies next week and we are back in the hunt again. It ain't over until its over. And you would be a fool to think any other way.

If we loose the next three, then it is maybe good-bye for 2005. But not for CC.

I still think CC is right for Freo and look what he has achieved:
- Been part of the team that has got us into a good financial position for a change and membership is the best it has been.
- we were wooden spoon material and he got us to our first final. We are not wooden spooners anymore.
- he has built a reasonably good squad with some depth. This depth has been good enough to overcome the injuries we have had this year.
- he had picked and developed a good bunch of young players who have further developed this year. We are quite competative and do not get absolutely belted every week.
- he is well respected and a good bloke. He is learning and getting better at it. He has provided a lot of stability.
- he is well priced and not charging a crazy superstar salary.

Who out there is better than him that we can realistically get. None of the big guns will come.

Like it or not CC will be there to 2007. And I will be there cheering the boys and CC on and hoping that we make the 8.

You just make sure you duck for cover when we do.

i will not back away from my comments . i think you are perhaps misguided, but i think it might pay to be that sometimes.


every point you make basically shows that you are happy of where your team sits and aren't really worried about success. well some of us are and want people to be accountable. i.e what repercussions are there at seasons end if we fail AGAIN?

Despite (like most Freo members) being devastated over the last couple of months, having had some time to think, I think that Connelly should be given till mid 2006 before the knives come out.Sure, he's a bit slow on the uptake and not the best coach going around but I feel he is improving.

Circumstances could hardly be any worse than this year. Not so much the number of injuries, or short term injuries to Mcpharlin, Bell etc but long term injuries to key personnel. We have definitely been a key defender short in Haddrill and I think some Freo supporters underestimate the value to our team of prime movers Matty Carr and James Walker. With these players in the side players like Josh Carr and Des Headland can play their more typical roles or in more appropriate positions. I also feel a number of our players had interrupted pre-seasons and went into 2005 not quite right.

Teams take some time to gel, and I'm giving them this year to get it right. No excuses in 2006. Our three "new" midfielders Black, Carr and Schofield will be better with this year under their belts. On the positive side less experienced players like Mundy, Johnson, Dodd, Murph, Gilmore etc have had the experience of a few games and will more easily "step up to the plate" in 2006. I'm a bit concerned about the progress of Scotty Thornton this year though - hopefully it's just a case of the "blues" that inexperienced players sometimes go through after a good season the year before. Woods is a concern and a "goner" I reckon, Medhurst continues to skate on very thin ice. Headland, I'm not sure about yet - I feel that CC is playing him too far forward. He will be better with M Carr and Walker back in the side.

If most of our team are fully fit with a niggle free pre-season completed then NO EXCUSES for next year. Then and only then will I be calling for Connelly to be axed.

Finally, despite the fact I should be sticking with my old-Aquinian mate Belly, I think we need a change of captain for 2006. The choice is obvious and I think it would "freshen up" the team. It would also give Pav more incentive to re-sign when the time comes around.

ps. I haven't totally given up for this year - there's still some silly chance, especially if we can get some cattle back on the ground and win some home games. If we can't win the derby we would have to beat Port at AAMI (not impossible given their form in 2005, and the fact that we've played the ground recently).

What we have now is what we will have in 3/4/5 weeks time. FFC talked it up a bit after the kangas debacle that team would be near full strength and we were going to go places in theh last 9 weeks.

well now hadrill is out for rest of season and jimmy & big carr are strictly week to week propositions. Belly will be out for longer than 2 weeks. and Haze is under extreme duress with injury.

I think that Happy has been treated appaulingly.

Hahahaha. I used the AFL ladder predictor and had us scraping into 8th position in Rnd 22 after a narrow win over Port. But I pencilled in a loss for the derby, so if we could win that, then we're still a remote chance. Gotta be optimistic!
