I just don't think that the AFL (or anyone) wants it to be ok to jump and bump somebody in the head leaving them concussed on the deck (regardless if it was the hit to the head or the head on the ground which resulted in concussion.

He didn't need to jump and make high contact, he's got to be responsible for the consequences of it, that's the way the rules are written now.
But he's jumping for the ball? It's not like this was off the ball. He's jumping trying to grab the ball. You are allowed to do that. Ah Chee being hit by his hip is just how the sport goes sometimes.

I obviously have a biased interest in him getting off but there are definitely arguments for it. Given the precedent set earlier this year with Rioli, they either have to acknowledge they got that one wrong, or Cripps gets off. Carlton will definitely dispute it if he gets weeks.

It's just not as clear cut as you initially think. I still think he'll get weeks but this case is going to drag out to a tribunal hearing I think.

In the video and all relevant reporting, consensus appears to be that his hip made contact with Ah Chee’s head. Moreover if Ah Chee’s head made contact with the ground due to him being unable to protect himself, as the result of unreasonable contact by Cripps, Cripps is still considered responsible for that.
Translation for those playing at home, we play you guys in 2 weeks and im only here because Carlton without Cripps is enough for me to faux outrage.

Cripps hip was as far away from his head as the length of the Flemington straight but keep up the cheer campaign even if Christian ****s this one up we will appeal and get him off.

Looks like he jumped and tried to grab the ball the same as ah chee, you basically want him reported for being bigger and stronger and coming off better from the contact. Ah chee is the one running at the contest with FAR greater speed.
He turned his shoulder into him. If he was going the ball the whole time he'd be fine. But he wasn't.
Can't bump high and get away with it any longer.

It wasn’t a 50/50 equal contest. He was late to the contest, launched in the air and then apparently tried to take a chest mark with his shoulder lol

He wasn't late tho. Ah Chee spilled the ball because Cripps arrived as he takes posession. Watch Cripps' left arm - his hands are out as though he's gonna take it on his chest, and his eyes never leave the ball until the point just before impact, where he turns to protect himself.

At the very least its nowhere near as bad as Rioli's.

I honestly think Carlton's season is cooked with or without Cripps, but it's gonna be a fascinating case to watch play out.

Of course it will, the AFL manipulate this kind of stuff to suit their agenda and this year it's get Carlton into the finals.

If this doesn't end in two weeks it will set a precedent that you can NOW do this type of thing with impunity. A heap of players who have copped weeks for similar will be asking for refunds!
What is this precedence you speak of?

Oh and re the various folks mentioning good guy and the others mentioning sniping ... conceptually you can only say 'that is not his style' so many times before you need realise that that is indeed his style.

I prefer my precedent. It aligns more closely with Cripps' actions
Rioli is definitely closer. Also I still am unable to get my head around that Maynard incident. Do they still do that whole ear massage segment on Bounce? Because that would be 5 clips a week of players who should be suspended for 3 weeks based on the precedent they set with that Maynard one.

He spilled the ball because he was hit by Cripps shoulder. Fwiw I don’t think he will get suspended, but equally don’t think that kind of act is palatable. I’d say the same if it were Lachie Neale who made the hit.

Cripps tucks in the arm electing to bump

Cripps collects AhChee high with the shoulder instead of going for the ball.

Pretty conclusive, 4 weeks. Pretty dumb thing to do with two weeks left, precariously hanging on to a finals spot, and losing literally a dozen best 22 team mates through the year.

Carltons seconds will get wiped by Collingwood in the last round and they'll miss the 8 after being basically a lock at the half way point

These things will continue to happen now that the AFL have said above shoulder contact is now no longer a penalty. Must of seen 30 or more high tackles in the Eagles game yesterday with not one of them paid as free kicks.
Head high contact now officially rife in the sport.

Based on that then he should get off, Ah chee leaned into his elbow.

You can’t tackle in a marking contest. It’s not an option. You can either contest for the mark/spoil or get roasted by your coach for pulling out.

Cripps had the option of laying a tackle, punching the ball away, going for the ball himself with arms outstretched, or staying low and laying a fair bump.

He did none of those; he jumped in the air and bumped Ah Chee to the head.

Furthermore, the AFL loves high marks and wants to preserve them as a cornerstone of our game. The bump it wants eradicated. Simples.
You wanted him to lay a tackle while the ball was in midair? Ah Chee never took possession of the footy.
