Recommitted Patrick Cripps [UFA 2027] - name was floated for a move in 2025, stayed

Realistically we arent going to get him for super cheap. He's still a very good player, and the blues giving him away for anything less than a first rounder would actually get fans burning down ikon park.
And we're pretty close to that already lol

Jeez it would be sad to see Cripps in anything else than a Carlton jumper.

Hes not going anywhere and he's not worth what Carlton would want for him. He won't be around when West Coast are contending next and I don't think Fremantle need him, Jackson plays a similar role, is alot younger and much more versatile.
Lets see how freo go as a whole in the midfield vs Brisbane, Dogs and EF

I think a big mid can work. Young probably explores fwd stuff more as does Jackson

Or it allows them to play Jackson as rhe sole ruck more often aswell

Or S.Darcy and Freos 1st rounder for Cripps with TDK departing

He’s earnt the right to chase some success. He has given Carlton great service for over a decade with no success and has acted as a human shield for the failures of that club at times.

If it’s true, I don’t think Carlton should stand in his way.

The only way I'd want Freo to look at him would be because Carlton are pushing him out the door but publicly it's "family reasons" and they get to walk the moral high ground and help their champion go back to WA for cheap - then spend his salary on TDK and Curnow so they both stick around longer.

I don't want to be buying brownlow prices for a guy who until this weekend was looking a shadow of his former self and on the wrong side of 30.

Arguably, he wants a flag so he moves to Freo but if it's WA then I'd rather he made WC more competitive for $2m a year after Reid is traded end of this season and they use their trade haul to buy Cripps.

I think Cripps would be absolutely perfect for Freo and wouldnt have the burden of carrying a midfield so I suppose I must have some bias here but WC list managers should be shot into the Sun if they go after him.

I'm not sure on how reliable that poster is but I would say very very few 31 year old captains and club legends leave their club. Hodge the only remotely relevant example I can think of (and it's really completely different).

He's exactly what WC need, as long as the draft capitol isn't too much.

We would be crazy not to go for him

The biggest complaint against us is a lack of midfield leader to protect the young players like Reid/Hewett/Hough.

The only thing we need to do here is organise the PP assistance to pay for Cripps. Do that and we golden

So perfect if hes practically free? If there's no AFL freebies you are breaking up or giving up a top pick AGAIN for an older player, this time 31.

Just take the top picks to the draft WC, STAHP throwing draft capital down the toilet for older players. This approach is going to get the club into St Kilda / Essendon purgatory at best.

He is a shocking fit . Midfield needs pace not another big body

Unicorn Jackson is encouraging as the big body but hes really the only one. Young is sort of big I suppose. Cripps for a few years would be awesome IMO.

We definitely get bullied sometimes but there's an argument in modern footy it doesnt matter too much.

Yep, if he doesn't cost much.
If we're given an end of first round priority pick.

We should still have 1, 2 and around 13.

We need a ruck and big bodied mid who can help the kids.

I think Carlton fans are going to have a very different opinion on what this would cost, 31 or not. The whole "2 down to 6" thing also seems dumb given the academy picks and what not

Cripps is exactly what Freo needs to go to the next level.

I don't personally put as much stock in his lack of pace thing. You have to remember Carlton as a team is generally not quick, most other teams seem to have more balance there. Cripps in another team surrounded by more supporting pace wouldn't be an issue IMO.

I'm not in the "trade pick 2 for 6" camp.

If Cripps did request a move back home, it would free up a million plus for Carlton.
Cripps has bled for the club so they might be reasonable in trying to get him back home.

It's a big "If" though.
Don't think there's been anything in the media saying he wants to leave.

How’s that currently going for north?

I agree, he is, but he is contracted and captain of the Blues who would want a fortune for him even though he maybe has three years left in him, maybe.

I don't want Freo blowing a load of trade capital on a guy so that Carlton can keep their other players with his salary.

I don't want to have to pry a player like that out.

At a point Freo needs to get a flag or die trying. It could look like a masterstroke when Freo is lifting up their first cup around this time next year. Cmon you know you want to.

Not for the price Carlton would expect for him, hence why I said they'd need to be doing him a favor to send him home and then using his salary to keep their other players.

Not interested in paying multiple firsts for a guy we get three years out of, who could fall over as soon as next season.

They've brought in older, mature players, not helping because they cant draft and develop to save themselves. If you cant draft and develop everything else is meaningless. Its the single.most important part of building an AFL list.

WC ****ed the list, the solution isn't to give up valuable capital for older players. There's no quick fix but the quickest fix is to draft as many high end picks as possible and the academies stealing half the talent pool just makes it more important to stay at the top of the draft. Keep drafting, the talent wins out in the end.

A mid teens pick value on Cripps seems incredibly fair to me, I feel hesitant about it and it is still a first round pick which would satisfy the nuffy blues supporters who know nothing about the draft, and still call up the radio after every loss.

Carltons pick 6/7/8 whatever the compo ends up at from tdk could feasibly get eaten in a bid on their father son who cal put in the top 10 the other day.
Pick 2 gets them a CDT or Duursma

We most definitely need older players, and this is the perfect offseason to do that. We have enough picks to take high end talent and bring in leaders to nurture that talent. Duggan and Kelly are not cutting the mustard.

We also have good talent on the list (controversial take) but that means diddly squat when they’re all children playing against men and your WAFL team is hot dog water.
