Check out Patrick smith's article in today's Oz at:
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/hubris-reigns-at-collingwood/story-e6frg7t6-1226085157535

He suggests that the Club is up itself and as evidence offers Swanny and Daisy's tweets, Harry's meeting with the Dalai Lama and a few other incidental happenings. His logic escapes me but I would like to know what he was smoking when he wrote the stuff - I'd definitely like some of it!

Paddy old son, instead of indulging yourself in this stream-of-consciousness nonsense, I'd suggest you get yourself off your fat arse, get out there and search for a real story and back it up with some rigorous research. Today's effort is lazy journalism at its worst.

Patrick Smith talking to himself : People have worked out I'm a tool and no one is reading my articles any more how can I get people back. I know I'll write a story bagging Collingwood and then ring my di*khead mate KB and go on about it with him.

This is a guy who followed Essendon up until this year and switched to Richmond or Melbourne because of the way the bombers treaded Matty Knights.

Tool of the highest order.

Firstly nobody reads the Australian Sports Pages so Patrick Smith is insignificant.
Secondly he is a dinosaur who has outdated ideas which is why he and KB get along so well
Thirdly the title of the article is wrong must be a typo it should say Patrick Smith is up himself. The self righteous, self appointed know all of football who shouts down and is rude to everybody who disagrees with him.

Should point out that the McGuire has not given notice to Malthouse. Fact is that there is a contract through to the end of the 2014 season.

If the Dalai Lama was a such a respected man, why do the leaders of this country refuse to meet with him ?

BLAH.......Patrick Smith has become insignificant

"After Magnus the Magpie's post trivialised the use of drugs, one issue that can destroy the credibility of any board, he was defended by other posters in the thread. Other posters argued that Patrick Smith was a decrepit buffoon. It was the other posters who were decrepit buffoons. The Collingwood board and its posters could never, ever do anything wrong. Never be criticised. All of this - Magnus the Magpie, SIDE BY SIDE, FredNerk69, underbelly - hubris."

Guys, Patrick Smith has made a valid point. The Pies are setting themselves up beautifully to be cut down by the dreaded tall poppy syndrome. I remembered seeing the photo of Harry with the Dalai Lama and thinking "what next"? I didn't take any of the tweets seriously, but it pissed me off when Mick accused an opposition player of cheating. Collingwood is the best, but the more antics like these we see, the greater the resolve of oppositions to cut you down AND the more likely Pies players will believe they are invincible

As I have said elsewhere, this bloke is completly irrelevant. So, he invents a story based upon his assumptions.

Sttew, what rubbish. The tall poppy syndrom exists because of jealousy. Just like people want/wanted to cut down Geelong in recent years. Mix this with journalistic licence, a hatred for all things Collingwood, and a need for a journalist to make themselves relevant...and BINGO, we have an article.

Swan's tweet that he was too clever to be caught by the competition's drug testers pointed to his thoughtlessness but also to a belief that both he and his club were not constrained by any rules or philosophies that might bind the rest of the competition.

Good one Patrick.

Indeed. In fact, after seeing the Harry/Dalai Lama photo, Travis Cloke was heard to remark "I am a dragon, raaaaaaa". He then proceeded to kick 6 goals each of the following 2 weeks.

Which raises some questions. If Trav really believes he is a dragon, does that make him one? And are dragons allowed to play AFL, according to the rulebook? Hubris.

Update: He was later heard saying...."YES! I AM INVIIIIINCIIIIBLE!".

Let's just lock up all our players so they can't have fun or do anything.

What did you say when Bomber was eating during the game or your players pulled faces when singing the song? Was that arrogant as well, or is that just reserved for opposition teams?

Your post is complete horseshit.

The media state players are robots show no personality then Swan (I thought it was amusing) tweets - was good - showed he had a sense of humour.
Dale Thomas the same - the constant pressure of been a player - let them have some fun - I bet the supporters like the amusing tweets.

To me Patrick Smith is the Righteous one - he only sees (pardon the pun) black and white - no grey at all. He is all high and mighty, and if some one dares goes against his so called principles thats it.

This is the man who states he can no longer follow Essendon due to the Shenigans with sacking Knights and getting Hird and Bomber Thompson. Been a Hawk supporter hate the bombers but had no problem in what they did. What Bomber Thompson did, I have an issue.

I wouldnt pay ant attention to his bleatings at all.

If Hawks were 10/1 win/loss and said we are sending player X,Y and Z across to Arizona I would be all for it. What it does is been pro active and taking a chance to improve the list mid season - hoping to maximise the sides chances in the 2nd half of the year and hopefully the finals - its not arrogant. Now with Geelong doing a week on the Gold Coast, to me its innovative from both sides. They are looking outside the square to see if they can improve there sides.

My opinion do not pay any heed to P Smith as he cant handle anything innovative.

I think until I see a Collingwood player yawning or a sleep during the players singing the club song after a victory, I say those in glass house!!!!...I also reckon if you look at the ins/out, the cats are resting players every week, why isn’t the paper picking up on this and no respect for their opposition? (2 more this week, down as “sore”)????

Ha ha ha ha ha! Good one sunshine. He said early last season that Collingwood were showing the strain of the Malthouse and Buckley succession plan.

What's new? Other clubs have been wanting to "cut Collingwood down" for my entire lifetime regardless of ladder position, and have often lifted when they see black and white vertical stripes. Nothing has changed. Reigning premiers have also always been heavily targeted as well. However, I believe if teams try too hard to defeat an opponent then it can backfire. It has to be monitored carefully, so I think it's great that other teams may try even harder against us.
I remembered seeing the photo of Harry with the Dalai Lama and thinking "what next"? I didn't take any of the tweets seriously, but it pissed me off when Mick accused an opposition player of cheating.
I am aware that this is Michael Malthouse's final season and that he will leave no stone unturned to win one more premiership. I am also aware that he has learned from Richmond's failure to go back-to-back in 1982, and West Coast in 1993 and 1995, and that he is doing everything to make sure to change that this season. There is no doubt in my mind that Collingwood's players have their mind on the job, and if anything, I prefer it that there may be some such distractions at times to prevent a player from playing a match in their head beforehand.
Collingwood is the best, but the more antics like these we see, the greater the resolve of oppositions to cut you down
If other clubs are going to try even harder to beat Collingwood, then I love the idea of that! There is absolutely nothing to suggest that finding a "greater resolve" will benefit opposition clubs, and I firmly believe that it can lead to the opposite occurring. If the incentive of winning a premiership is not enough for other clubs, then they have motivation problems.
AND the more likely Pies players will believe they are invincible
Oh yes, is that right? Can you please elaborate on that completely unfounded theory? How on earth have these "antics" suggested they believe they're invincible? Your post is wishful thinking rubbish. Quite similar to Patrick Smith's article, which is not the first time he has done that either.

You'd know from experience, wouldn't you?

The democratic right to express one's view is a double-edged sword. Swan and Thomas express theirs, and Smith expresses his. Players are arguably motivated by the need to feel like individuals and to respond to constant criticism, while journalists and administrators nervously compete with each other for relevance and corporate survival. That's why they look like shit. Smith is clearly losing what little relevance he had as a second-rate sports hack for the Australian, so a logical default pick-up line to readers revolves around bagging the Pies. Its nothing new. Its always going to be us v them. We depend on it. Smith is irrelevant - like a porno-moustache.

the reigning premiers have a bit of a right to be cocky....unless your hawthorn that is

What's going on here with opposition supporters stating this here? There is nothing that he has said or done that warrants that.

Not a major problem with your post, but just so you know, Tall Poppy Syndrome is a trait Australians are actually known for.

Patrick Smith is a bitter old flatulent git.

"We are up ourselves". Patrick me dear boy it's about time you read your own dribble or listen to yourself on SEN.

How listens to this Guy who Writes for a Newspaper that hardly anyone Buys or Reads.

Guy Knows nothing about AFL and I think he is on Drugs what I have read from him
