i just want peoples thoughts on why they think bower isn't getting a game.i don't get that he was a sub against brisbane then 4-5 weeks later we have brought in 2 key backs in austin and white since and he hasn't had another look in and has obviously fallen way down the pecking order.i rate bower and i think he is definitely in our best 22

He's in the VFL trying to scrape together some form. He'll be ready when he's ready. No point rushing him back beforehand.

Austin is perhaps much closer to senior selection. Named in the best in the loss to Willy on the weekend.

Seems to be low on confidence. Nothing some time in the Ants won't fix one would think, or hope. Just hope he can avoid more injuries in his push to return to senior level.

Bower is not fit, hasn't had a preseason and has hardly had any footy. Running is the most important part of his game and he hasn't got that at the moment.

I'm feeling we will have to wait until next season for Bower to make an impact. I also feel the selectors and coaches don't have confidence in his body holding up.

I reckon some of us need reminding that our place in the 4 isn't locked in either.

In fact, if we win enough to finish 3rd, we (should) play Geelong, and if we lose, we then play either 6th or 7th (likely to be interstate teams) at the 'G.

Every slight show of complacency, like including Bower with no regard to form, chips away at the overall success of our season and also goes against the philosophy that has gotten us within reach of our first Top 4 finish in a decade.

I like Bower, but unfortunately continue Injury in the last 2 years may see the club offering a trade. The Possibility to the West Coast Eagles for Mitch Brown, or a similar big man, or something we need. These two players may manage their injuries, and improve both sides as they both have better support at home with their families.

I would like Will Schofield as a possible trade, but the Eagles probably won't accept that now. Make no mistake I still keep Bower, if the deal wasn't good. I just think we need the defense to have continuity, with the same guys and not have a player missing chunks of games years on end.

His goose is cooked. Hendo our new CHB.

Ok maybe not Hendo, but he hasn't got long to go. He's a magnet for injury, and inconsistent when he's fit.

Eagles did not give up on Kerr and look at him now.
Bower is worth sticking with-keep up to date with the Ants thread

He is far from fit...

The sub game to cover for Jamo set him back, then being kept out of the Ants game last week because Thornton was no certainty to play cost him another week of game time...

Having said that, he is behind Laids when discussing his position in the side as Laids is harder and his disposal is so much more penetrating as is his run and gun style...

Needs to get fit first but I would say his season is almost cooked if he doesnt get a run in the next 2 weeks...

Bower and Lucas have biomechanical techs working with them on their running techniques. They have suffered quite a few upper leg soft tissue injuries that are a result of a poor running technique.

They are both also down on confidence with their bodies because of this.

That being said, who comes out of the side for them to come in.

No one...

Lucas has no chance...

Bower has 3/4 in front of him...

Lucas when sorted out will be a ready made replacement for Scotland in a couple of years when Scotland is looking to retire.

His disposal will have to improve 10 million-fold for him to replace Scotland.

Lucas 2010 yes Lucas 2011 no, haven't seen a young player fall so far, in 2010 I assumed he would be an excellent afl player by now he looked that good.

Agreed. Lucas looked like a star in the making during first half of 2010. It's a shame what he has put forward this year so far, but he is young and has been injured. He deserves a little leeway because of this.

not worth a trade unless a star player is presented. He can play on all sizes, he would fit in well as a pocket or flanker.
Given that Henderson has looked OK in defence so far (and I'm being mindfull that it's only been one game).

If Bower became fed up and decided to go home ... would everyone be in favour of including him in a trade for Mitch Brown from WCE?

I think he could be a good swingman to have in our side - can play KPD or KPF

l would not discount Bower being traded for the right player at year end, if we identify a specific type of player need e.g a quality key position player he may be part of a potential trade, in terms of Mitch Brown Vs Bower right now their rating would probably be on a similar level.

You would also expect improvement in Watson & McCarthy in 2012/13 so Bower may be expendable for the RIGHT trade.

Paul Bower's best is potentially AA. Let's not forget that.

I liken him to Walker. If we had traded Walker to the Crows or Power last year, we would be livid right now. IMO it's the same as Bower.

Injuries, and interrupted pre-seasons hit KPPs harder than midfielders. Look at Lake this year, and even Jammo and Waite last year.

With KPPs, every possession is about beating your direct opponent.
Lose 10% of your game and that's all your opponent will need to out-jump, out-body and out-run you.

Keep Bower, he's a Tim Tam...

...There is no substitute for quality.:D
