I have watched most, if not all Geelong games this year and I firmly believe that Paul Chapman has had a better season than Gary Ablett. I am considering putting some hard earned on Chapman at $51 to win the Brownlow and $13.50 for a place. Do the educated Geelong supporters believe this is a fair assessment?

I was talking about this with a mate. He sort of polls well and I think he would be in the Top 2 or 3 in the Geelong Best and Fairest.

I reckon the media hype around Gaz will mean he polls well regardless and I doubt Chapman will get as many votes as him. IMO Chapman has ha a just as good year, if not better. Not sure if he has done enough to get that many Brownlow Votes in the eyes of the Umpires. Plus he used to always complain to the umpires - would that reflect in their voting?

In other news, someone told me Gaz was paying $2.20 for a place in the Brownlow. If you have some money, unload on that!!

Going by the best players in the GFC email sent every week he would be second to Gaz. (Giving 5 votes to the best player, then 4, 3, 2, 1) According to them, last week was his first best on ground performance. Is usually in our best 5 players week to week so he would be a chance.

You could do a lot worse than throw a tenner on him at that price.

The thing to keep in mind though is his hammies are likely to play up later in the year, meaning he will miss some games.

Still, i'd take the chance on a 500 buck profit.

Getting more midfield action which puts him under the nose of the umpires so that'll help his cause. But does tend to backchat a bit which might count against him.

Still has been in super nick this year so I think at those odds a $20 on him is a worthwhile gamble.

Also, he has the nude nut so may pick up votes intended for Ablett by mistake.

Oh, and Mark Robinson is on board after Chappy's game against West Coast.

Not as much as Milburn or Ling - at least Chappy doesn't give away frees.

Chappy does like to give the umpires the ol' death stare though, don't know how that translates into votes.

True. He's smart enough not to say anything though.

I think he'll poll well. He's an eye-catching player, and his numbers are up again this year (from career-best figures last year). He's like Ablett too in that when he plays a great game he has a huge impact on the team.

he's been very, very good. should finally make all-australian after just falling short of playing enough games for each of the last 3 years.

Two warnings on wagering your hard earned on Paul Chapman:

1. Backchatting. Chappy never stops yapping on the field, and a lot of it is directed at the umpires. It would be a close run race between Chappy and Milburn as to who has given away the most 50m penalties and/or free kicks for 'dissent' Don't think that this doesn't make a difference to their voting (they're a thin-skinned bunch at best).

2. Hamstrings. Chappy has weak hamstrings, and if there is any sign at all of injury in the second half of the year, Geelong will not hesitate to rest him for as many weeks as it takes. He's obviously one of our best players and the #1 big game performer in our side IMHO, so they'll take the ultimate no-risk policy should anything happen.

While I'm also wary about Chappy's hamstrings, it seems Chapman himself is not as worried these days. :thumbsu:
Groin and hamstring issues behind Chapman
"If you had have asked me last year I would have thought [the hamstring problems were] going to go on forever, but I see light at the end of the tunnel now. I don’t know how we managed to get [Snelling] but he has been fantastic for me. He really knows his stuff, especially regarding hamstrings. It was great to have a different way of looking at things."

"There is a lot of sports science in it. He put on a strong program for me over pre-season [and] he is forever on to me… to do those extra things. So I have done a lot more work on (the hamstrings) this year, hopefully this year can be the one when I can get over it."

If they're the odds I'm gonna chuck 10 bucks on him each way. Could be a very nice return either way :):thumbsu:

Hope you don't mind me typing on your board but i'll give my two bob about Chappy seeing as i follow the brownlow very closely. He is an awesome player but it may have cost him many votes in his career when he called the umpire 'a cheat', i think it was about 2 years ago. It's the worst insult to an umpire and they're only human, so they don't forget these things.
