he broke the premiership drought, but is he overrated?

- week in, week out the same tactics are employed
- if a player is not doing well, he is left on the same player
- minimal to no changes in attack are changed throughout games
- he coaches from the sidelines

Lol, one shit game and the haters are calling for blood.

We played terribly against our bogey side. There will be a massive improvement for next week. Have faith!

Not entirely true, there are slight variations from week to week. But generally, if a game plan that has shown to been successful, why change it?

- if a player is not doing well, he is left on the same player
There were plenty of changes last night, at times it seemed as though he was shuffling the deck chairs. E.g. different opponents on Cloke, Thomas, Medhurst, Didak all throughout the night.
- minimal to no changes in attack are changed throughout games
He usually doesn't have to, the forward line has been firing this year. Last night he threw Mattner forward in the 2nd half, and made some difference.
- he coaches from the sidelines
I think it is hard for anyone to say what the impact of this is, as we are not coaches. I suspect there are other reasons for this move, such as easing Longmire into the head coaching role.

I think Roosy is getting too much flak for this.

I doubt he said to the players "Hey, you know what we be a great idea? Letting them stroll out of their back line with no pressure. Also, let them lead you to every contest! Another thing, if you're feeling like it, hand ball it directly to them. That will catch them by surprise! Finally, you know that thing called a marking contest? Where two players contest the ball to see who can win the mark? I want you to lose every single one of those contests!"

Very well said.

Malthouse is a super coach and may have Roos measure but last night was a pressureless game and mistake ridden from us, particularly in the first half. Were still in the top 4, played in two GF.

With few top draft picks with this generation of players and our performances with them there is no overrated with Roos in my opinion.

Our game plan was developed to get the most out of our list 2003 onwards. It is no secret that we dont have the most talented list so a plan focussed on tackling and defensive pressure was developed and it has been very successful.

The problem is that until our list changes significantly we cannot change the game plan.

Thats not Roosy's fault, its just footy.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Roos. I think he's a brilliant coach and normally a very good match day tactician but there is no doubt Malthouse has outcoached him on several occasions. There is absolutely no excuse for not having an alternative plan for our kickouts after we struggled with them so much against the pies last year. I nearly fell off my chair when the best Roos could do was instruct the players to use the huddle after quater time.

no one said anything about hate
and it's not ONE shit game
it's four or five now, against the same team
he has sent the team out to play the same LOSING way in each
it can't be the players who go out and simply decide to return to negative, aimless, pathetic, MORONIC football, so who takes responsibility?

and fck this bogey side crap, what's a cop-out
as will be proved next week when the hawks kick the crud out of THEIR "bogey side"

Err - and one game completely rubs out every other great game we've played this year? We haven't choked many people up, and have played pretty attackingly without compromising our defense.

i also hate using the 'bogey side' argument. It is a cop out. We lacked intensity, and got outplayed in all facets of the game. But sometimes you really do wonder whether there is an element of 'bogeyness' at work. How else do you explain carlton's dominance over collingwood, our dominance over the lions even during their premiership years, freo's dominance over west coast, and so forth.

Also from all media reports, Roosy had wanted the players to attack and take the game on. So if that was the case, then either he didn't get the message across, or the players had let him down again or a combination of both.

This probably isn't the right thread to post this in but I didn't really want to start another one here.
I have to say, I think Paul Roos is a pretty darn good coach. He always seems to cool, calm & colletced (although, I don't watch him every week). When I have seen him in interview etc or before/during/after a game he seems so relaxed. Not sure why that is because I don't see it a lot in other coaches (in particular Malthouse, not that I don't like MM because I think he's awesome..... but yes) & I'm not sure how a coach does that.

But yes, have to say, Paul Roos is up there with some of my favourite coaches.

i will put some faith in the "bogey side" theory if sydney bounces back and beats hawthorn next sunday
but that will not happen

hawthorn will beat us by 6-8 goals, if not more

Roos is a great coach. Had we of won last night, which could have easily been the case, people wouldnt be saying Roos is over it. He did look a bit flat on the side lines and after the game he looked like he would love to be anywhere but at ANZ, but who wouldnt when your team has just played like crap. Even coaches have off days peoples.

It happens all the time on the Pies board. It's almost a certainty after every loss at least one person says that we should "Sack MM!" etc. as soon as we win none of the MM baggers make a sound (most of the time anyway). As soon as he leads our team to a flag, hopefully they will crawl back in their holes for another 10yrs...... :p
