?? So who is being payed what by whom to do what exactly? You are commenting on something that a Bigfooty poster says as if it were fact. Has it ever happened before? Is Buckley on the Footy Show as part of his Collingwood contract? Or his he there because he captains the club with whom the medial is most obsessed and is one of the best players of his era? Bear in mind Collingwood are UNDER the salary cap in any case. These stupid theories are all based on if CFC or Eddie did x when in fact they have not.

mighty mick's comments aren't as silly as they sound. Pav apparently (if you can believe his oh so trustworthy management) was holding out on Freo to see if the marketing and promotional component of his proposed contract could be beefed up.

If Eddie is talking to Pav why wouldn't Eddie say, "Well if you are based in Melbourne you can just happen to appear on the Footy Show ." Eddie would be stupid if he didn't.

And this is why people don't like Eddie. He wouldn't be where he is if he didn't use these kinds of coincidences.

Sounds good in theory, but how many regular Collingwood players have there been in the past?
No more if not less then other clubs.

I think the point is that its more than Freo (or Port or the Crows for that matter)

The salary cap doesn't have restrictions on money earned through the media when you're an AFL player, so going to Melbourne is all good......more money from marketing. Home of Fox Footy, and the football departments of all three commercial networks.

Bingo!

Plus Pav would be on in a flash since he is "an up-and-coming star". Like Riewolt (who has been on there recently).

Totally agree with that.
Always has been, and most likely always will be, unless Sydney decides to dump Rugby League and take up AFL instead.
Some of the other posts were implying that 2+2=5 though.

i can't blame pavlich if he is looking at melbourne with tv eyes. if you are an up and coming footballer with ambition why shouldn't you be looking at a spot on melbourne (and national) television. you certainly can't get that kind of exposure in perth.

i don't believe that collingwood hold all the cards here though. if he was to go to north (just an example) he should be able to get the same television opportunities as if he went to collingwood.

If he goes anywhere other than Freo or SA he will have zero respect from me for the rest of his career.

Players going to be with their family etc... is sort of understandable especially when they have given something to the club that drafted them. But if Pav leaves for more cash and 'to be famous' he can garn!

i can understand that. i'd be dirty on a player who left west coast for those reasons.

guys like buckley, hird and carey (before this year) certainly have a high public profile and defiantly are set for a full time media career after football.

honestly though at his age he needs to focus on his football.

Perhaps not silly, just paranoid and delusuional apart from hypthetical and to date proven to be unjustified.

I imagine he would say something like that. If he were a lawyer, I imagine he would say there are some pretty good law firms and I see if I can get you an interview. It's all part of inducing someone to move. It's like getting player's wives jobs.

And it's the unsubstantiated leap to salary cap avoiding arrangements or corrupt transactions or sililar that I keep hearing from a "and he will probably....." perspective that I object to.

Now that is the relevant point.

MarkT, basically if Eddie came out on the Footy Show and drowned a puppy you would still defend him.

No one is talking conspiracy but as stated, his position in various industries does give him and Collingwood an advantage. So when he sits there going purple in the face acting like Mr. Morality I usually want to vomit.

How do you know its hypothetical to date anyway? Would any of Eddies dealing with HIH have been known if HIH didn't go under?

No - but if you said he would drown a puppy and he had never drowned a puppy I would defend him. The only reason I keep defending him is because baseless allegations are continually thrown around like they are facts. Things like Eddie would use TFS to circumvent the Salary Cap. For a start it would be pretty obvious. For seconds, it actually has happened elswhere with players given jobs at sponsors and has theoretically been dealt with by the AFL. So even if he did it would not be because of his position it would be because he was as shifty as some other presidents and sponsors.

I have never said Collingwood are not advantaged by Eddie's talants or his influence or his profession. I have in fact said we ARE advantaged. That is why he is President - because of what he can do for us. Anyone who says different is either deluded or stupid. Whether you like him or not or what he says or how he acts is IRRELEVANT.

It's hypothetical (what was being discussed) because it hasn't happened. Now you want to bring up HIH? Very well, what were EDDIE'S dealings with HIH that are questionable showing he is whatever type of corrupt person you are implying and in what context? Is it relevant to what was being discussed anyway?
