There's been talk that Matthew Pavlich wants out of Fremantle ASAP and would like a return home to SA. As a Port supporter, I have great interest in Pavlich.

What would it take for Port Adelaide to get Pavlich? Just remember our main core guys like Tredrea, Cornes brothers, Burgoyne brothers, and those guys are off limits.

Would Damon White, Toby Thurstans and a draft pick be enough to entice Fremantle if Pavlich DEMANDS to come home.

That is only a diversion. Everybody knows that the real story is that Justin Longmuir is going to Carlton to play with his brother.
You wouldn't have thought Justin was that keen to drop back to the VFL.

My favourite bit about the Pav story is "as-soon-as-possible" bit.

hahaahaha yeah 2 fringe players and a draft pick, for the 23 yr old AA CHF. Sounds fair, freo would be crazy to pass it up!
i know that it wouldn't be enough, i was just looking for a response.

in a way though, us having pav would basically be trading josh carr for pav.

Pav is very professional, signed a contract to complete a task. He will stand by his contract.

Maybe he wanted to be dropped late in the season so he could qualify to play with Souths in a "meaningful" premiership?.

He's not going anywhere. Besides he's contracted for the next two seasons, so anyone wanting a trade would have to offer at least the Weagles midfield.

For the moment, I'm going to assume that the "talk" described here is true.

There's two possibilities. One is that Pav wants out of Freo because he is disappointed with the way the team's going. In that case we would trade him to whatever team makes the best offer, i.e. if Port don't offer us one of their core players, they won't get him.

The other possibility is that he wants to go home. If thats the case then yes, Freo would probably have to accept a lesser offer. However, I would have thought that Pav's first choice would be to go to Adelaide, rather than Port.

Having said all that, the main reason why I think Port won't get him is that I don't think he wants to go anywhere. I would certainly expect him to see out his current contract at least.

That would be one of the worst trade deals ever mentioned on BF and there has been many, many silly trade threads.
Port would be a laughing stock if they tried doing that offer to Freo. I'm sure the Dockers aren't that stupid. Players like Pavlich don't grow on trees ya know, and there is no point getting garbage in return.

Seriously, what would the Dockers want from WC for Pav. All hatred aside, lets be rational and work out a realistic demand.

Kerr and 1st pick?

To me that's giving up a lot. Don't think I'm trying to con you. That is not my objective,.

If Pavlich did want a trade, the chances of him going to the Weagles is infinitely slim. So if you were to have any chance you'd have to offer a lot more than that. I mean lets face it, Kerr is a very good player but he's hardly a game breaker.

Bit of risk with Pavs dodgy shoulders and all, but a risk i might be prepared to take considering our depth in quality mids :)

Its pretty funny really what other teams are offering for Pav. Kerr who is your 3rd to 4th best midfielder and a 1st round draft pick around 18.

Its almost laugable. Yes he's a very good midfielder. But he really isn't a game breaker. The one and only midfielder in the whole league that can be mentioned in the same breathe as Pavlich is Judd.

The only other key position players are Brown and Riewoldt (both of similar age and talent). Also Tredrea (superior talent) but 3 less seasons.

Yes Hall, Gehrig and Lloyd are talented KPP but are a fair bit older.

Other super talented midfielders include Hodge, Ball, Black, Cousins etc but aren't worth mentioning in straight swaps.

To think you could swap Kerr for Pavlich and a kid picked at number 18 would make up the difference is laughable.

If We offered McPharlin and pick 18 for Judd would you take it??

Not all that keen on Pav to be honest. Terrific player but with Tredrea, Chad and Damon White ATM we need not worry about going after Pavlich. We'd have to give up something far too good to get him anyway.

in a trade where the player doesnt want to stay at the club then fremantle will have to settle for a less-than-fair trade or face losing him for nothing and have him nominate for the draft.

im predicting as soon as the finals series are over for the crows, watch them swoop :D

pavlich was a passionate crows supporter as a kid :p

Freo has all the power in this situation. You do know he's contracted for the next two years?

The year we won the wooden spoon Pav was still contracted and asked to be traded if a suitable trade could be found. And fancy that... Freo couldn't find a trade... so we kept him.

What would be different IF (and thats an IF the size of Eddie Maguires head) he wanted to go?

Pav will not be going anywhere. I'll set myself on fire 'Rage Against The Machine-album cover-like' if he does. No chance. None. Nada. Zero. Zip. Ziltch. Start making up Bartel, Fev, Whitnall trades and entertain yourself but thinking up Pav trades is just torturing yourself.

I suppose he could fit in with Woosh's recruting criteria. He did play in the midfield for a while but I would have thought that Woosh would be after another midfield specialist.
