Just picked up my 3070 and it has a 6 and 8 pin power connnecyion but my PSU only has 2 6 pins and then some 2 pins.

Can I just use the one 6 pin and then a 6 and 2 pin for the 8 pin connection?

Those 2 pins are most likely from a 6+2 so that will work. Do you have a photo?

That 2 pin looks like it slots into a groove of a 6 pin to make 6+2. Is your PSU modular? If so you should have something where one end is 8 pin and the other with a seperable 6 and 2. It's a pretty standard configuration so I'll be surprised if you don't have those lying around in there somewhere.

Sounds like an NVIDIA problem. Cablemod are going with a right angle plug which should alleviate the pressure on those pins. I doubt there is any solder involved, the wires will just be crimped into the terminals inside of the plug. Then forcing the wires at that extreme angle would tug on those crimped wires in their terminals. Either that or the pins terminating the wires have a smaller surface area than the actual wires causing them to heat up and melting the plug. Obviously a different sort of field to my work but electricity is electricity and I see it all the time.

I used daisy chains on my old 1080ti and it was fine but we're talking much less power then. Daisy chain is just using the same leads in series and maybe it's not enough juice. Do you have a separate 8/6+2 pin and 6 pin going back to the PSU?

Net back on woo. It's FTTC and NBN had to run a new cable from the DPU which is right at the front of the property to mine which is two units back (subdivided property with 3 houses on it, we're the middle). It was his last job and I think he was a bit bummed it was a big job but once he found out I was an electrician he got me to help him drag the cable from one pit to another. So that was my eventful day. Was a bit disappointed knowing I was going from HFC to FTTC but now I have brand new copper from the DPU and just did a speed test during what would be roughly peak hour right now and getting 102/20 so happy with that. I mentioned I got a quote for FTTP at $7.5k and he said nah because apparently I should be able to get fibre from the DPU to my house and come at only a fraction of that so I might look into that soon. I doubt my suburb will be on the free upgrade list any time soon as this government has changed criteria for where they're upgrading.

Also poo'd myself because my PC didn't seem to be booting to Windows. It was posting and I could get to BIOS on my second monitor. My RAM and motherboard RGB were also lighting red so I thought I had a major issue but was puzzled when the Q-Code on the motherboard was good according to Google. ...turned out I didn't actually turn my primary monitor on so once it was getting to Windows login I didn't realise. Also the RGB lighting was red because in the weeks my computer has been unplugged it must have purged some settings to memorise more important ones and Armory Crate needed an update and everything defaulted to red. Derp.
