2 games in a row he has made a major stuff up late in the game and turned momentum in favor of the opposition.

This kid was touted as something special and i think it got to his head. He can run all day, but can't kick for shit and i can't see why is still getting a game.

Having watched a lot of him in the WAFL, his kicking and decision making are terrible.
You'd be better off sending him back there, he'll never be a long-term AFL player, IMO.

You're right, except:

1. Momentum was already with Carlton by that stage
2. His mistake (and I assume you're referring to when he got caught by Fev) was no worse than Pavs miss in front.
3. He would have almost as looked just as bad if he had blazed away to nobody and it came back into the Carton 50 only this time with more space.

I'm no Peake fan, but lets just put things in perspective.

I disagree Papa, hes got nothing upstairs. He just needed to kick to a equal contest. But having said that hes no orphan.

That is basically my point. You're right, Peake should have found a kick to a contest near the boundary if at all possible. And yes, he's clearly not the brightest footballer out there, but my point is that the problem today is ultimately team one rather than any one individual - and there is no way you could blame him for individually giving Carlton the momentum, he didn't help of course.

On the actually incident, it was a funny passage, because I thought, "geese he's managed to run all the way to the 50, that's promising, if people are working up the ground for him and he can clear it we might be away - then he fell asleep for a split second and that was that.

Any chance somebody might have blocked for him, talked to let him know he was hot or led up the ground for him?
More than one player to blame here!
Having said that it is now time to try all of our mid range players, rookies etc as this season is shot to bits.

2 players were blocking for him just outside 50, Peake just held on to the ball too long. I can't say whether they were talking to him or not but realistically if you run that far with the ball and don't expect to get tackled at some stage then you are a pea-brain.

He could have used those players in a 1 - 2 handball to break the lines or at the very least just kicked the damn thing.

But agree, Peake wasn't the reason momentum swung. It had already swung Carton's way when they kicked a goal to bring it back within 4 points.

In the end Pav simply should NOT have missed. He was awesome all day and then choked - he shouldn't have taken that last shot either coz Mundy was running to the top of the square all by himself but Pav chose to take the snap at goal and missed...

Anyway, Pav and Taz kept us in the game all day so you can't blame him,we certainly tried harder then last week but again we have too many passengers.

That's my problem with Peake, when the games on the line like that he fails to contribute enough, same with Schammer - simply doesn't do enough.

We've had a long history of having several players who finish the game with between 6-12 possessions which isn't good enough at this level.

On a side note, Macca played his best game of the year and Thornton was much better - the problem is it was only against Carlton so hope they can back it up next week.

I think Pavs action like you have mentioned and the ________ Grant Thomas comment says to me that Pav has either little faith in his teammates or feels as Captain its his responsibility to do everything to get the side across the line. Freo needs to take that pressure off him.

How about putting him in the middle. The young blokes would do better with him in there and we have Campbell and Murphy that can come into the forward line...
