I have been a very strong supporter of the Recruiting committee in recent years, but I do think they made a very poor error of judgement in not picking up Pearce.

It is my undersranding we gave up Pearce for one Ryan Nye.

Well Nye has gone nye nye, and Pearce continues to Pearce me off with his good football for the Power.

I suppose you cannot have every thing, but he would have been a valuable addition to our lineup.

The only thing I can summize is that although Pearce has been very good, Adelaide have tended to opt for players that have a bit of body strength about them and can't be exploited by mismatches.

Does anyone know what his engine is like cause that could also have been a factor

Looks like a good little player but i'm more than happy with the youngsters we have picked up since 2004.

At the time I wanted us to take him in the draft, let alone the rookie draft. I couldn't believe it that we didn't take him with our first pick when he was still sitting there in the rookie draft.

So yes, I would have at least rookied him.

But I'll bet we wouldn't have done as well as the recruiters did overall, so I don't think that we can criticize them on this one.

He'd be handy for us a crumbing forward though, with an occasional run on the ball - I like the way he plays.

He looks a good little player. He looks very skinny but gets the ball still. I was suprised we passed him as well. Best athlete in the draft that year and I thought we liked athletes. Maybe his size put him off?

Just a query, you all reckon Peace will make the crows starting 18?? please give an unbiased answer.

If we had a fair number of injuries, he might be pushing for selection but I wouldn't think he'd get a game ahead of someone like Porplyzia though.

even though I dont mind the kid - probably not, or at least not yet.

top 25 maybe, but I couldnt see him cracking the 18 untill he developes his engine a little more. I dont think we're big on specialist small forwards, the last one we tryed (burns?) didnt come off too well...

As an overall comment on your recruitment since 2004, I agree with you Macca. But as a comment specifically relating to Pearcy, I totally disagree. As we all know, all teams passed on him in the draft; you guys had him for your rookie camp (vests & all) but decided to pick Nye, who is no longer on your list. I think your recruiting team errerd in not picking him up in the rookie draft and as his career blossoms across the boulevard, there will be a few people whispering a few regrets about this boy...

Re the bold bit: where does that place your recruitment of 'buster' Douglas?? IMO this was a genuine recruiting error by your club at the rookie draft. In the bigger picture though, it was an error by all clubs, just as they did with hi hoo everybody Davey.

I think if he continues to string top shelf games like this one he will be 2006 NAB Rising Star winner. Has done enough to shine as a starlet and now needs to consolidate more torwards being a real star.

As an aside i think Symes will earn the NAB Rising Star nominee for round 9.

no such thing as a genuine error at the rookie draft. by that stage, it's a crap shoot.

as for this guy, he looks a nice player. but hardly wrist slashing stuff.

That's probably the most accurate summary of this thread

Cant blame clubs for not picking him up. At the time there were doubts whether he could put on any significant muscle or weight and the games he had played that year werent overly exciting.

This time last year he was still in Sturts reserves and not exactly setting the world on fire either. I doubt there would have been many Port supporters that thought he could have done what he has done from that point on.

His engine seems fine and will continue to improve as he improves and he has also put on quite a bit of muscle definition since last year too.

One of those lucky rookie picks that go on to better things.

I'll jump on this Pearce bandwagon

I dont mind Adelaide missed him...thats the luck of the draw..

I do recall posting on the Port board after the Showdown last year or the last one of 2004?..the wet one.. that I felt he had something special hidden away. Glad to stand up and take that one :p

Any junior under 180cm is a big risk. You can't take all the risks.

  ......FFS - you win some you lose some - drafting players is not an exact science - for every one we've passed up - there is at least one more that we've made a good call on. Some poster's persistance with starting threads criticising the club's drafting and administrative record while not contributing at all to positive news and threads is becoming unnaturally obsessive......and would cause some of us to questions the motives for such behaviour.....

I like Pearce but I am not going to crucify the club for not picking him..keeping Matthew Smith might be cause for club bagging

Symes is a beauty.

He will develop into a first class player for the Power IMO - a statement I made at the time when I first saw him play. :thumbsu:

You could say that we have gifted Port a few good players of the last few years S Burgoyne and Pearce but then again you could also say they have gifted us a couple Thomson and Stiffy. It's about even I reckon.

I call your FFS Mad Dog and raise your FFS.

I have been a most ardent fan of the Recruiting committee in recent years.

I think we have done very very well and Fanta must take a lot of the credit.

I have been criticised by some on the board, and if my memory serves me well even you, for pumping up the tyres of most of the recruits.

All i was saying is that in Pearce's case we may have let one slip.

it's just so so easy to make those calls on a Sunday morning after someone like Pearce has had such a good game. My frustration is not aimed soley at you but we seem to have a lot of "after the fact" experts here who never go out on a limb....snipe at those who do....then roll out the "told ya so's" after the event.

Why cant we celebrate the VBs, Knights, Ruttens, Hentchells, McLeods, Ricciutos, Douglas's and every other good recruiting move we've made rather than thinking the grass is always greener ?
