Pendlebury is a GUN!!

There is no doubting the fact that Pendlebury has great skills and composure but the reality is that the kid has a pea heart (as witnessed at Hawthorn V Collingwood) at the G last year. With guys like Lonie in your side you need as many hard palyers as you can get

How about you take a mark dropping into the space in front of a leading J.Brown? And as far as being hard, you don't have to crack heads and get suspended every 2nd game like Campbell Brown does to be tough, Pendlebury gets contested possesions and hard ball gets.

Hit the bricks junior.

???

that is a bit silly

D.Thomas slotted right into the senior team, after M.Murphy at Carlton he prob had the next best debut year of the 2005 draft bunch, whilst pendles had an interupted pre-season and was fairly quiet in the senior games he played

playing well at williamstown is all well and good but it doesn't equate with good senior performances

Thomas was rushed back into the senior team for the final after injury, think that sums up how good a first year thomas had

...as a small forward.

And there's the no 2 pick factor. Collingwood had to play him to justify taking him at 2.

Ease up. Thomas is smaller than James Hird. He's going to play a big role, but not at CHF.

James Hird was never big enough for CHF. Im not talking about size.
Talent ALONE is enough for Thomas, in his prime, to be a CHF when he needs to. He is that type of player, where, if one-on-one can do it at CHF for 10-15 minutes.

...unless Clement is on him :p

They say that great players seem to have plenty of time to decide what they are going to do next.... in cricketing terms the name mark waugh comes to mind and so it is with pendlebury he just doesnt kick it or handball it willy nilly he seems to have time to decide what he is going to do and mostly it pays of. Best of luck to both boys and hope they have long eventfull careers.P.S I am refering to pendlebury v thomas.:)

??? we already had didak and egan in the team as small forwards.....thomas was brought in because he is a big game player, and he was BOG for willi the week before, he demanded to be picked.........pendles didn't

thomas won the best first year player, as he was the best first year player the pies had last year, and by a substantial margin too

pendles playing well for willi is great, but failed AFL footballers like b.johnson, b.lloyd, s.greene were also playing well for willi so it doesn't mean much

thomas was pick2 and he has to be picked in a final to prove something, yet pendles at pick5 doesn't??

im sorry champ, but the facts are that thomas had a much better first season of AFL footy then pendles

pendles may turn into a champion, i hope he does....but right now thomas has done more for the black and white

Can't agree with that.

Pendles probably had a better year than Daisy last year, despite having only played 1 season of TAC cup (and no footy for 4 years before that) and having his preseason ruined by glandular fever. Was in the best in almost every Williamstown game he played.

Daisy played more senior games, but it's much easier to break into a side as a small forward than as a genuine midfielder (even if the midfield is as old and slow and underskilled as ours).

I fail to see the logic behind saying pendles had a better season than thomas? Pendlebury played 9 games and didnt really have much impact, although he showed a few good signs. Was probably hampered by his lack of preseason.

Thomas on the other hand sent the crowd crazy throughout the year. Took a few screamers, kicked a few good goals, and was pretty much a regular in the senior side. Coming back from injury he picked up something like 30 touches (?) and 4 goals (?) for williamstown in a final. He was also one of the only players that could hold his head up high in collingwoods final.

Yeah, i agree with Nardz, Thomas definately had the better first season. Pendles was awesome in the two's but it's not the same. Having said that, love the look of Pendles. Think we've find one here, boys. If he has the training intensity and dedication of Del Santo, look out.

Was in the best in almost every Williamstown game he played.
Dale Thomas played one game for Williamstown. It was a final, but he still dominated the match to the tune of 4 goals, so one gets the feeling that if he was being judged by the strength of performances in the VFL, if he had more of them, he probably would have looked a lot better than Pendlebury. However, his form dictated that he was in the side the entire year.

Daisy played more senior games, but it's much easier to break into a side as a small forward than as a genuine midfielder (even if the midfield is as old and slow and underskilled as ours).
So wait, it's easy to break into the highest scoring forward line in the competition, with an All-Australian small forward, Nathan Buckley playing forward, and guys like Chris Tarrant, Anthony Rocca, Leon Davis and company all playing up there?

Or at least, easier than breaking into a midfield that as screaming out for class, consisting of O'Bree, Licuria, Lockyer, Rhyce Shaw, Ryan Lonie... Need I go on?

The fact is, it took Pendlebury a while to get to the point where his form was good enough that we actually believed that he would make the senior side better, whereas Dale Thomas was at the point the entire season.
