Will either win or come 2nd in the NAB Rising star...get on it

Not completely sold on him yet. Has that half paced look about him which can be very good, ( Simon Black ) or very very annoying, like he's not really that interested.
The good news for pies fans is that he seems to have a huge potential upside to his game, but seeing some real desperation would be nice.
I realise that he's only a kid and he needs time to fill out and gain a hardened A.F.L bodyshape, but plenty before him have never taken that expected step.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Simon Black do anything half-paced!

Pendlebury does appear sometimes to be a bit lethargic, but news of him immitating Licuria's training in encouraging.

He's not as "inside" as Simon Black, which we have to remember. He's good inside due to his abnormal ball-gathering and evasive skills, but he's not a natural body contact player.

Hopefully he will learn this side of the game. Hard to believe 24 months ago, this kid wasn't even playing footy!

Valid point, but this kid will be something veru special i have no doubt about that!!

He had glandular fever last year with little pre season & he still showed he is a player to look out for.

He will be a GUN!

Looking forward to seeing him play this year
Heard many great things about him all over the board.
To answer your question yes i think he will get a role in the midfeild this year with the likes of Holland out and Buckley may be rested every now and again.
Lets all jump on the Pendlbury bandwagon, I can see him being a superstar.

I've always been a fan, eversince he stepped on to the field for Williamstown in a practice match, he has so much time, good evasive skills, knows how to get the ball and use the ball with his classy left-foot - although sometimes he makes a few errors here and there. His mentor is Paul Licuria so no wonder why he has picked up a few skills and he's certainly covering a lot more ground at training. I hope Mick can show a little faith and say to Pendlebury:
"I will start you in the midfield and keep you in there" ...

He has to become an inside mid, with the logic being that for a guy who always has time and space with the ball, if he can create that inside, then he will be of the utmost value to the team.

I don't think you'll find him under the packs, but that's okay, because not everyone can be, but if he can be the guy that the handball gets to and he makes sure it turns into a Collingwood uncontested possession, then I have no problem with him.

Nick Dal Santo-like in that respect.

He looked a talent from the first time I saw him but he won me big time with one act. His steal and disposal from Paul Williams.

He may or may not kick on – plenty of talented players don’t - but he has something intangible that you can’t teach. Not that you can put him in any of their catagories yet, but he has a Daicos/Nick Davis/Didak quality about him. Christ if he has Licuria’s dedication there really isn’t a limit. I tend to think it is very optimistic to expect too much in 2007 though.

He is a similar type, although I dont think he's shown us all his tricks yet like Dal Santo has.

Dal Santo averaged 10 touches in his first year, "Tacklebury" averaged 13.

Dal got 18 touches or so in his second, I reckon this is roughly what output we will be looking for out this year for Scotty with a better fitness base and more time in the middle...

He is the player I'm most looking forward to seeing this year and I think he could cement a spot on the ball.

I'm not sure about these comparisons to Dal Santo though. I think Pendlebury definately moves like Dal Santo, especially his evasive skills with that sidestep and spinning out of trouble. But, I think Pendlebury will be much more valuable inside the contest where as Dal Santo is very much an outside player. I see Pendlebury's ball gathering to be more in the style of Daniel Cross who is one of the most under-rated players in the competition.

Disagree with all of this - Dal Santo is not that outside, he just makes it look that way.

Both Dal Santo and Pendlebury are incredibly good in close quarters and heavy traffic, especially at making it look like they have all the time in the world.

However, both are somewhat outside to a degree, because of this ability. They would be totally sacrificing that evasive skill if they were on their hands and knees at the bottom of a pack like Daniel Cross, who neither of them resembles at all.

Keep in mind that Dal Santo averaged 10 disposals over the course of 18 games. Which is a fair amount of AFL experience for his first year (2002).
In his second year he averaged 19.2 disposals yet only played 8 games. It wasn't until 2004 he stepped up a gear, played a full season and averaged 22.4

yep, tis usually the third season when the talented kids really start to impose themselves

hopefully we get a couple of special games from him, most likely he will have good and bad games, go missing for halves, but have to accept that as he is still learning

Pendles is going to be a fantastic player.

The guy played basketball for a lot of his youth, so his footy skils are still progressing. He shows that basketball background in what looks lethargic.

It's natural for a basketball player to approach another player slowly before trying to burst past him. That's why Pendles has such good evasive skills i think. I mean in basketball, you can't exactly crash into a player.

I'd say he'll cement a spot within the first 5-6 rounds of the season.

I can really see him playing off the wing this year with Lonie on the other wing. I'd say Thomas will probably start the season on the wing and then rotate to half-forward flank when Pendles gets in the team.

OK, I have a question about BigFooty!!!
How do they organise the positions of the topics?
It doesn't always seem to reflect the date in which they were posted.
There were a couple I did at 1am last night and now i can't even find the topics.
Sorry I'm new here, help would be appreciated....Ta.

Good post and very valid points. I am not completely sold on him yet either. although there are very few 1st year players I am completely sold on. I have seen too many with great potential not fulfill it.

Imo he could be as bad as Aaron fiora or as good as Nick Dal Santo. He did some nice things but there were also a couple of times where he absolutely Shat himself. I am willing to except this as part of his development.

I think he will be good but I wouldn't be to hell bent on the idea that the kid will be a pemanant fixture in 07 let alone a permanent fixture in the midfield. So many kids struggle in year 2. If he does play every game and plays alot in the midfield it will be a massive bonus for him and the club.
